Just saw a tweet stating he is resigning from his position?? WOW what a shocker. That university is going to hell in a hand basket.

Stating health reasons for his departure. I am sure its his health.

It is amazing how darn near every coach in the upper midwest has changed hands in the last year, except Ferentz.

And if you would have taken a poll this time last year, he was probably the most likely one to go before all the rest of them.

Edit...that pesky Paul Rhoads excepted.

Wow.

He doesn't need the money, but this is a huge huge huge huge HUGE blow to the Mizzou program. I don't think it can be overstated how much that Pinkel has done for Mizzou.

Just another sigh of relief for SoProud. All these openings means one less candidate for Pollard to consider. Not that a candidate for Missouri would be on the same level as what ISU would be looking at.
Just a very strange year in respect to all the openings, nationally.

Look for Tom Herman at Univ of Houston to be a leading candidate. Mizzou AD Mack Rhoades hired Herman when he was the AD at Houston. That, coupled with the success Houston has had this year would be hard to ignore.

Mizzou a Hellhole? At the moment, yes.

It's still the SEC and a team that went to the SEC Conference Championship Game the last two years. Put a lock on recruiting in St. Louis and Kansas City and you've got a good starting point for success in the future.

You can say that but please not in the context of cancer. Low class.
Actually, Pinkel was diagnosed some time ago and he continued to coach. Having cancer myself, I do not believe that his lymphoma is the reason that he quit. I'm betting that some influential donors and alumni dropped the hammer on him. He handled the situation extremely poorly because of his cowardice and fear to stand up and do the right thing.
Now, in light of what everyone knows now about the protest scam, it becomes even more apparent that the protesters could not have pulled it off without Pinkel doing what he did.
Pinkel single handedly insured that mess of a protest over fake racism and lies succeeded and cost two innocent men their jobs. The fall out of his actions will be felt on many campuses and will create more unrest and chaos where none previously existed.
I just find the timing is too coincidental and I don't believe in coincidences.
It is a shame anyone has to face cancer but we are all still responsible for our actions.

Or, he was right. Or, he believes the players have rights. Or, he feels that they deserve a piece of the money NCAA brings in. Or, he wanted to set an example of how every college football player could really screw over the people screwing them out of millions of dollars. Afterall, what are the colleges going to do, open call from the student body to go play on Saturdays? Good luck with that.

Though, I doubt it was any of that. I think he has cancer and is just tired of dealing with this bullshit.

Kill and Pinkel saw the future . . . and it contained fewer and fewer bowl games.

I'm don't care when his cancer was diagnosed or whether that is or is not the reason he quit. I'm saying if someone wants to call him out just don't link cancer and "no spine." For anyone.

One of two things happened, he knew he was going to resign anyway so that emboldened him in the whole fiasco that went on down there. Or he stuck it to his boss, which got his boss fired, and the actual people in power, you know, the money people and power brokers that every school have, are pissed off and forced him out, health being an obvious excuse so as not to hurt the program too much.

I always thought Pinkel was pretty ballsy to come out in opposition to the school president, who was his boss.

This thread is unfortunate. Give the guy the benefit of the doubt. Having had cancer twice myself (and I am not yet 45), I know that some treatments are brutal and others not as bad. (Either way I have empathy for those dealing with this.)

The first treatment I went through I was not able to work for four months, then I went back 4-5 hours a day for another 5 weeks. Even after that, it was several months before I felt even close to normal and nearly a year before I gained back all the weight I had lost. My understanding of Lymphoma is that the treatment is usually through both radiation and chemo-- very harsh.

My understanding is that he said he would coach as long as he could physically do it. I'll take him at his word, and pray for his health.
