Pinstripe Bowl game day plans - help an Aussie out?

Hello! I'm a 22 year old dude and will be travelling from Australia to NYC in a couple of weeks. I will be attending the Pinstripe Bowl and I'm not quite sure what the usual protocol is, but I'm keen to tag along with some people for some tailgating or pre-game beer-related activities. Someone over on Reddit recommended that I head over here and see if the serious Iowa fans could help me out. I am not a die-hard Hawkeyes, but I wouldn't mind being one for the day!

Anyone game or have any tips?

That is awesome! We will need all the Hawkeye fans we can get that day. I'm not sure how many from this board are heading out to NY but I'm sure you will get some help.

We've had a few Aussies at punter, so you picked wisely. You also picked wisely if you like tailgating and beer: voted #1 party school in the nation recently, and most beer drunk per capita of any city is Iowa City.

Where in Australia are you from? And are you an Aussie Rules, Rugby League, or A-League guy? Anyway, have fun!

This will be a good time for ya njomb. Just arrive several hours before kick-off, walk around the parking/ tailgating area, until you spot black and gold clad folks drinking cold beer with a grill fired-up. Introduce yourself, and you'll have a cold one in your hand within a minute, and some new friends.

Or, I won't be surprised if someone on here tells you where to meet their group. Have fun.

Are you sure you understand that the Pinstripe Bowl is an American rules Football contest pitting two very underwhelming university programs and not a meeting of Wall Street Bankers on New Years Eve? I know we Americans and Aussie’s sometimes use different words for things sometimes:

Australia
“Throw a Shrimp on the Barbie?!”
USA
“When are you going to light the grill Honey? The kids are hungry”

Australia
“Thunderdome”
USA
“Costco on a Saturday”

And my personal favorite:

Look for the BLACK & GOLD clothed folks. Dress in Black and Gold and it will be easy

I saw the Simpson's clip and I thought you were going to show the riveting game of knifey/spoony from the same episode.

Now those are some statistics I can get behind! I'm from Perth. Over here it's quite AFL dominated - so my taste followed suit. I'm a Dockers supporter!

5:15 p.m. (EST)
Cheer on the Iowa Hawkeyes as they take on the Boston College Eagles at Yankee Stadium!

Postgame Party
Playwright Irish Pub, 27 West 35th Street, New York
Following the game, return to Playwright Irish Pub to celebrate with members of the New York Metro IOWA Club.

I think many of the NYC Hawks will 'tailgate' at Playwright as of like 10:00 am Wednesday, before heading up for the huddle. Indoor tailgating with bartenders. Ideal.

Look me up if you make it, the club is looking forward the hosting the Hawks that do make the trip east! Go Hawks!!!
