Pizza Hut Pizza

Pizza Hut is almost bottom of the barrel when it comes to pizza. I'd say Little Caesars and CiCi's take the prize. All are beyond terrible.

I'm a pizza snob, though. Give me thin Italian style baked in an 800 degree oven or gtfo.

Those are certainly great, but you always need a pie per person. Do you like any bready American style pies? How about a Chicago?

It's called taco pizza genius, and it's awesome.

Is this some kind of homo thing where gays don't know anything about pizza?
God I hope so. But if you knew anything about pizza you would know it doesn't belong anywhere near a toco, pink or otherwise.

This stuff on the right side of the pie. Oh and they deserve to be hated for putting chips on the pie too. So many things wrong in this picture.

That's a QC pizza thing and it's disgusting

Not really. Most "QC style" pizzas with Canadian Bacon is sliced. Antonella's Canadian Bacon is in chunks too, but they cut the rinds off. Happy Joes doesn't.

Still laughing though that Natural thought it was pepperoni.

Pat Angerer, Brent Greenwood, Colin Sandeman and Zack Gableman disagree.

Have you never wondered what my handle represents.

No 30 for Greenwood, but he was technically a PV kid.

I had never puzzled your handle out, but we agree Banks was first of the bunch.

Pizza Haus in Williasburg is pretty good. Similar to the Pagliai's style. I also like the Grinnell Pags, although it is a little bit different than IC. I have had the Pags in Dekalb and Charleston IL too. Those are not quiet as good.

My experience with chains has been that it depends on who is running the franchise.

Sadly Godfathers is fading away. Its down to a few restaurants now and is becoming a mini mart brand.

As if May 2015 there are 571 Godfather pizzas still in operation. Only other number I could find was 640 during the 80s. So GFs aren't fading away yet.

Are they counting the mini mart ones like the one at the Swisher exit the same as the two in CR? The one on Hwy 1 in IC is gone. I know there are mini mart ones in Swisher, Tama and DeWitt now to name a few. CR has two sit down ones still.

I last had Pizza Hut about a year ago and was not impressed. Seems like they were a lot better back in the 1970s and 1980s and have gone downhill over the years.

Is Godfather's still around? Granted Iowa pizza options were limited at the time but that was some greasy though very tasty stuff.

Best Iowa pizzas way back were Pagliai's, Felix and Oscar's, The Airliner's and a place in Ames, The Great Plains Sauce and Dough Company. Late at not you might have ordered a wedgie from Paul Revere's. A calzone really, but none of us in Iowa knew what the hell a calzone was.

Great Plains in Ames might be the best pizza I ever had. When I was in college Felix and Oscar's was very popular mostly due to their drink specials.....if I remember right they had a lot of double bubble.

IMO the downfall of most Pizza Huts was when corporate bought back many of the franchises and turned them into corp stores. It all became about making the cheapest product to squeeze out every penny and even the service in those stores is usually less motivated.

Last time I ate in one wasn't by choice. It was a Sunday night, we were traveling and dine in restaurant options were very limited. Pizza wasn't terrible but it wasn't good either. I'll give them credit.....they were in a smaller town than many other chain restaurants and they were open when the only other thing to pick from was a Mickey D.

Yes they are and honestly I feel ot hurts our brand. IN fact I get enough calls asking if we're in a gas station that I have one Google ad that let's people know we are not.

I get it from a corp. Standpoint. That is where the growth is. Gas station owners want food and it's a profitable program for them to run. Fewer and fewer traditional stores exist as customer base continues to change where more and more families get pizza to go or be delivered. A lot of overhead paying for dining rooms that may get filled up once a day while 70% of sales are to go or delivery.

But I think that growth can hurt operators like me when people see Godfathers and consider it gas station pizza.

Haven't had pizza for awhile. When you're trying to shed pounds, you quickly realize that rather than eat a piece of pizza, it's simpler just to put a straw in a bottle of Wesson Oil and suck.

In the old days, though, I really liked Sam's in Cedar Rapids. Incredible amount of cheese. Cut into square pieces and the fat would shimmer on top. Absolutely great.

Godfather's definitely is still around. They have the franchise at the Guppys-on-the-Go convenience stores.

Pizza Hut, Dominos, Little Caesars, Papa John's, etc
are all cheap chain cheesy pizza. Most pizza lovers
find a local pizza parlor that makes excellent pizza.
In the Quad Cities you have Happy Joes and some
others who make better pizza than the chain franchise.
Happy Joes is a chain and it sucks.

The one in our fair city is not very good, unfortunately.

However, the one at the BP in Riverside is absolutely outstanding. I suppose it helps that the place is really busy, so the product is always fresh, but that is some damn fine pie.

Mason City has the best Godfathers pizza hands down. Their Taco is unreal, but every pie they make is great. Godfathers has the most inconsistent chain pizza I've ever seen though. The locations in Hampton and Estherville are garbage.
