1. If I am a Republican who serves a District that is 50/50 democratic and republican, is it my job to support and fight for my republican ideas or work to compromise with democrats?

2. What is the purpose of confirmation hearings? Is it my job to only vote for people that believe the same as me or am I supposed to vote for someone who is qualified, but may have wway different views?

You should vote in a manner that reflects your constituents. I believe if you pulled a lot of the things going on you will see even the Republican constituents will not support what's going on. They will find that sitting by while Elon is doing what he is doing is wildly unpopular.

Confirmation hearings should be to verify if a person is qualified, if they aren't qualified don't vote for them.

There should never be a confirmation hearing ever again. Only one vote of the body to approve or deny. The pols staff will still do the same amount of background checking so the pol will still be informed. All hearing are is fundraisers and show of faith to pols handlers. Nothing more, nothing less.

Your job is to best represent all of your constituents regardless if there is an R or D next to their name.

1. You vote your conscience. If you ran an honest campaign a majority of your constituents are already in agreement with your ideas.
2. You vote for qualifications. The administration gets to select political leanings.

I’m agreeing with Rifler. We don’t elect representatives to hold their fingers to the wind, we should elect (and confirm) qualified individuals who, as closely as possible, mirror our own values. We should be able to trust them to do what they believe is best for the country even if we disagree with their stance on a particular issue.

That we have twice elected an individual as completely bereft of qualifications and morals as Trump is an indictment of the population of this country.
