I'm sure she's a fine coach - for a mid-major conference. And I'm not confident at all that Barta (or whoever would be in charge of hiring a replacement) can get a B1G-caliber coach. But you have to switch it up after this year - right?

They had one that should have worked out, she even had an Iranian husband-coach (the UNI coach that got them started good was Iranian) but she didn't. Others before her should have worked out, but didn't. I don't think the mid-major experience means a coach can't make it into the BIG. It works in other sports. For some reason Iowa volleyball experience seems to make good coaches look like no-goods. Maybe see what ISU and UNI did to better their programs. (but they aren't as good as usual this year, right?)

Iowa State is ranked #17 and is third in the Big 12 behind #1 Texas and #12 Kansas. UNI just won a share of the MVC regular season title with Wichita State.

Okay, but I still don't think they'll make noise like they have other years. Saw Peterson interviewed at UNI-IA ball game. Could she be hired for Iowa? We hired former UNI baseball coach and most seem to be happy with him, so far anyway..

In my opinion, no. Coach Petersen is coaching at her alma mater. Im sure there have been other big name schools to offer her a job after she has reached the sweet 16 or go 63-5 in the 2011 and 2012 seasons combined. From my point of view, there should be no reason to leave a job where she is already successful and can compete with most teams from power conferences every single year. She's taken the Panthers to the ncaa tournament about every year it seems like, and has even coached a handful of all Americans. Not to mention that she loves the fan support at Northern iowa as she has said many times in her media statements. As of three weeks ago, UNI was #6 in the nation for attendance per game. I'm not sure that she would want to leave that for a program with bare cupboards.

Just noticed that we beat Indiana there for the season sweep, giving us 2 conf wins and sole possession of 11th place. The season wraps up Saturday night at CHA vs 10th place OSU. Could we possibly get a 3rd win and build momentum for next season (when we lose our setter, libero and best hitter)?

nope. another reason why.

Iowa HS All State Elite Team.

Foecke- Nebraska
Inderski- Creighton
Schaben- Iowa St
Conway- Iowa St
Weber- UNI
Koop- UNI
Willey- Liberty
Winters- Creighton
Reuter- Missouri

need we say more?
The program is in a state of free fall, and the most important people noticing it, are the ATHLETES!

Went to the game last night. Players play hard but talent just isn't there (at least for the B1G). Also, coaching is absent. No time outs when other teams go on runs, bad spacing, strange rotations and line ups and no variety in setting up kills. Hitting the ball at the same spot on the court for the whole set, every set, doesn't say much for complexity of offense. The crowd actually was quite decent but to pay $5 for this product is a bit much. Barta, please make the change.

Coach Dingman has been fired. Hope the new coach is better and takes a really great sport seriously.

The baseball hiring process worked out in the end with Iowa getting Rick Heller, but for a while there it turned into a circus. I hope this isn't the case with the volleyball process.

I figured she'd get another year. We avoided 12th place, and I thought our hitting had started improving last year. Blocking is a bit better too though still not what would be considered mid-level B10. Still too many 5'11" and under OH's on the roster. Sort of funny how Yeager was getting props for all of her digs, without mention of the reason she had all the opportunities.

OTOH, the timing might not be bad - our facilities situation is improving (if still not on par with the best programs). In-state, ISU finished one-and-done in the NCAA tournament, and lost 4 of their last 5 matches. UNI was upset in their conf tournament and didn't get an invitation. Though this years HS seniors are all committed, we could start getting some attention again from the juniors and younger.
