Had a friendly argument over the weekend as to who's the best Bond. Made me curious as to what you guys thought. FYI 'Bond 24' aka Spectre is coming out Nov. 6th in America and the new teaser trailer was released last week.

Anyway, expecting a lot of Connery's but I'm also a fan of Moore. Daniel Craig has done a great job as well IMO.

Brosnan has always reminded me of Alford for some reason.

I voted for Roger Moore.

I think Daniel Craig has potential, but the writing in "Skyfall" was horrible. If he is to have a successful run, he needs to present as being a bit more virile and not prone to getting himself beaten up. I do not remember Roger Moore ever being involved in fisticuffs. Certainly nothing that required more than straightening his jacket afterward.

An ageing, reflective James Bond without a host of Bond Girls around him does not work in my view.

There's only one real James Bond.

Some of the others have done a pretty good job substituting for him, especially Craig. But Sean Connery is James Bond. Period.

Roger Moore could deliver his lines with panache,
and always looked suave and classy. He had
more chemistry with his leading ladies.

I haven't seen Quantum of Solace yet, but I thought Craig was very good in Casino Royale and Skyfall. My only complaint about Skyfall was that they killed off Severine way too quickly. I would have liked to see a whole lot more of this before Silva put a bullet through her head:

Roger Moore was very good for the role he was playing, which wasn't James Bond. It was The Saint. I don't mean that as a criticism of Moore. The movies he made were not very bondlike, anyway. Much too dependent upon gadgets, etc. And I don't mean the Moore movies weren't entertaining; a couple of them were really fun. How much worse the world would be, for instance, without Barbara Bach?

But Craig is the only one since Connery to play a character like the book. And I say that as someone who was dumbfounded when it was announced that James Bond would be played by a blond.

Indeed.

People who have not read the books (1) do not realize how well-written they are, and (2) do not realize what an asshole James Bond was. A prig and a misogynist, just for starters.

Connery (in early movies)
Moore
Craig
Dalton
Lazenby
Brosnan

I don't consider the original "Casino Royale' with David Niven and Peter Sellers to be a real Bond film.

Hell, I liked them all. Each one brought something different to the table.

Connery, Dalton & Craig play JB as a suave brute who didn't hesitate to kill or abuse to get the job done.
Dalton wasn't very likable, but he was a badass.
Moore was a ladies man and a gentleman. Not a brawler.
Connery was the complete package.
Brosnan looked the part, but was not physical enough to be credible.

Jill: How could you possibly enjoy a film like that?

Steve: Oh, because it's got naked women in it! Look, I like naked women! I'm a bloke! I'm supposed to like them! We're born like that. We like naked women as soon as we're pulled out of one. Halfway down the birth canal, we're already enjoying the view. Look, it's the four pillars of the male heterosexual psyche. We like: naked women, stockings, lesbians, and Sean Connery best as James Bond. Because that is what being a boy is.

[That's from the "Inferno" episode of Coupling. Susan found the porn tape "Lesbian Spank Inferno" in Steve's VCR and during a dinner party, challenges him to justify liking it. He first attempts to pass it off as mere erotica but when describing it he digs himself into a hole - leading to this rant.]

I'd have to agree with this. Found the series in the Mesa Market a couple of weeks ago and can't put them down. Fleming was a very good writer. And the original 007 was played best by Connery with Craig right behind. Moore played his part well, just different. I was also surprised how much of a dick the book version was. Good assessment LC.

On her Majesties Secret Service has always been one of my favorites so for me and even though only one film, but Lazenby is up there. The top still has to be Connery.

I can watch the first 6 Connery movies any time, any place. The Thunderball remake was meh.

Rodger Moore...only the first two are even reasonably good movies. Towards the end, they're almost comical. Like the Batman TV series from the 60's. Too campy, almost parodies.

Brosnan's first two were good, Goldeneye was near great. The last two were terrible. Daniel Craig I think is 2 for 2 (haven't seen Skyfall yet) - one great, one pretty good. Easily second best Bond for me. Lazenby was fine as was Dalton...but they just don't have the same cache for me...almost like they aren't really James Bond movies at all.

I like Craig a lot. Bond to me is rugged, tough brawler and it doesn't bother him at all to eliminate a rat.
