We don't hear much about this, but Hezbollah is fighting against ISIS. Protecting Lebanon against ISIS incursions. Probably aiding Assad in Syria, too, but that wasn't mentioned in the news report I just saw.

I assume that most of us aren't supporters of either group - and would probably be happy to see them wipe each other out. Since that won't happen, which of those do you most want to see LOSE?

It's tempting to want Hezbollah to fall because of the long-standing hostility between them and Israel. But over the years, Hezbollah has been drifting more in the direction of the IRA. The IRA evolved from a violent terrorist group into an organization that now runs candidates for election and participates in Parliament. Hezbollah is doing the same.

There is no reason to think ISIS would play nice in anyone else's parliament.

So then the question becomes whether ISIS has it's designs on Lebanon. I doubt anyone has any confidence in Lebanon being able to defend itself (beyond whatever Hezbollah's militias might do).

Could we find ourselves (and Israel) defending Hezbollah?

Hezbollah was created by Israel. Hamas was created by Israel to fracture and dilute the PLO and Arafat. ISIS was created by the U.S. When these enemies are created, the big boys can always point to this bogeyman and say, "Look! We HAVE to be over there before they blow-up Pittsburgh." Read Eric Margolis who has covered 14 wars.

I'd rather see ISIS win.

We can always get to ISIS later.

Hezbollah is more dangerous right now.

Which is more organized? Seems like building a coalition later against a more organized enemy would be easier. though Nothing would be better IMO than to humiliate Isis. Unfortunaltely as one of obamas previous military advisors mentioned, humiliating Isis is the only solution and it would require the full weight of our military. I don't envy Obama or the next president as they will have some very difficult decisions to make.

You can bet ALL the candidates hope they won't inherit this mess. Perhaps especially the GOP candidates, since they will be in a serious put-up-or-shut-up corner when they come into office (assuming they continue to deride Obama and the Dems for being unable to take care of this problem).

Unfortunately, one of the generals on TV recently said this will take "many years." Maybe he's wrong, But the new prez takes over in 20 months.

agreed, talking about making a decision and making the decision are two different things.

IDK. There doesn't seem to be a shortage of candidates. My guess is most of these cronies are loaded up on defense stocks.

I voted for ISIS to lose. But as the op stated it would be great if it came down to the last two combatants and they took each other out. I hope this doesn't become another of those like/hate/like/hate relationships we just keep building in the Middle East. We don't have to like anybody in a fight.

The problem is, we spend billions of dollars trying to fix issues in regions of the world which we can't fix. We no longer have billions of dollars to spend.

This of course is just my opinion, I am not an isolationist, but I am not for being the world's police force either. If a country, or region, or religious or political movement is a threat to the point that it requires our response? I'm all for quick and decisive military action if it is the only solution which will work. But sticking around trying to spread Democracy? When is the last time that worked? South Korea? Maybe, we're still there aren't we.. Japan and Germany? Now we're talking seventy years ago.

Have at it Hezbollah and ISIS, I hope in this case you both shoot straight.

I'm not convinced that ISIS isn't some CIA cell or CIA-supported faction. I don't trust very many people in power, sorry.
