No offense, but I don’t think those options necessarily fit - I don’t think wins this season is the main benefactor.

I think it’s more or not if he wants to leaves on his own & is willing to negotiate the buyout with Beth. If he doesn’t, I think Beth let’s it ride.

For that reason, I would put him at 50%.

There is the fact that his son Jack is scheduled to play for
Butler next season. Fran and his wife will want to watch his
games in person. This will happen when they move to Indiana.
Fran will be 66 years old this May. His coaching days are over
and he will negotiate with Beth for a reasonable departure.

Bottom Line: This is Fran's last season at Iowa.

I went 75%. I'm not sure if Fran moves on of his own accord, or if he gets fired. I'm not 100% convinced Fran gets fired if he does NOT resign or take another job. If I was a betting man, I think there will be a new head coach next year. However it plays it out remains to be seen.

I don’t disagree, those are merely possible options.

He could certainly be considering stepping down as well.

From what I understand, Jack will redshirt at Butler next year and that allows Fran to coach one more year at Iowa.

He should step down. Iowa paid him good money, he won a lot of games but only 1 really big one in 15 years. Sorry his kids didn't flourish here but that was probably as much Fran's fault as the kid's deficiencies. Fran needs to do the right thing and retire from the University of Iowa.

Its Iowa, so best I can do is about 66% positive he's gone after the end of this season.

But never say never. 😢

Please make me SO wrong on that, Beth!

I can’t help but wonder if he and Beth already have something worked out regarding his departure. Probably just wishful thinking.
I’ve had that same thought. Beth seems sharp and eager to put her stamp on the Athletic Department. Brian F’s departure was a good start. I can’t see Beth waiting for another season of low expectations and poor results for Iowa men’s basketball; the program needs a fresh start. I suspect she already has negotiated Fran’s departure at the end of the season.

I hope you're right, because that's what should happen, and it's the way it should happen.

that's exactly where I am at

Iowa hates to fire coaches, it's not in their DNA

Then what the hell is an AD for? If Beth doesn't have a new men's basketball coach in place in the next few months, she's not who she was advertised to be, and she should be shown the door. This is the AD's No. 1 job--hire coaches who can be successful and fire those who, especially after 15 years, have the program in a state of apathy with attendance to match.

I'm at a coin flip.
The precedent at Iowa is to hang on to coaches long past their expiration date.
Don't know yet if Beth will break with that.(The Brian fiasco was such a unique set of weird circumstances that I don't think it gives much insight into how she will handle this).
Trying to be hopeful that Fran has had enough and is willing to negotiate a buyout.

Iowa is not going on some miraculous run that changes the course of the season & making the NCAA Tournament. Not happening! I think they'll be lucky to make the conference tournament. I could see Fran wanting to return next year, but apathy would be at an all time low. I legitimately mean it when I say they wouldn't sell out Xtream Arena.

I’m not sure I’m buying this narrative. We fired Lickliter. We fired Zalesky. We more or less fired Tom Davis, then gave him a year-long swan song. We gave an ultimatum to Alford, but he beat the posse out of town. We essentially fired Brian Ferentz.

I know less about the lower-profile programs, but I imagine several have been pushed out through the years.

But I guess we will see what happens with Fran.

Not sure Iowa has the backbone to get rid of him next year. Hope they do, but..
Yeah, anywhere else he'd be gone with out question but Iowa tends to take the gutless approach whenever possible.

Well find out if we have a real AD or if that was also just a gutless hire.

She should be back channeling to Devries right now.
