No, but it doesnt mean we cant have some very good seasons and win some huge bowl games. I think thats why so many of us (myself included) went to the rose bowl. Sucked losing but it was a blast and the festivities leading up to the game were awesome.

I do think Iowa can win a Big Ten title and hopefully, that’ll be soon.

I don't think Iowa will ever win a National Championship in football or basketball - even if Nick Saban and Coach K decide to coach at Iowa. I'm not saying it is impossible, I just don't think it will happen. I don't think there is ever going to be enough reasons for top recruits to flock to Iowa.

Since Minnesota won in 1960, 19 schools have won the CFP or AP National Championship in the last 57 years, and only 6 were from schools in the North. (OSU, Mich, Pitt, ND, Colo & Penn St). In the last 20 years, Ohio St is the only school to win from the North.

It's been 20 years since Michigan won, 30 years since Notre Dame did, 32 since Penn St won it.

It's a very tall order to win a NC, even taller if you are in the North. Mighty tall if you are in Iowa.

^^^^ defeatists - worst part of the fanbase. Before you can win it all, you have to believe you can win it all. Ask a Nebraska fan this same question in 1960 and the answer looks a lot like the above.

I voted never with the caveat that my (never) vote is restricted to the current head coach. I truly believe that with the right head coach Iowa can win a National Championship. It will require a huge monetary commitment from the university in order to land the right coach.

NO and it's no disgrace because 98% of the team in the country will never win a national title. Look at the teams that have the easiest path to the title like ND,Michigan,Penn St,Texas A&M, UCLA,USC,North Carolina. These teams are in areas where they can get the talent to compete every once in a while.(( THESE TEAMS VERY SELDOM COMPETE FOR THE TITE )) I have news for you Iowa isn't going to win a title unless a miracle happens and it isn't because of KF. In fact he's kept us relevant for some time.

98% is not even close to correct and if you consider relevance based on what the outside thinks, we haven’t ben relevant in many, many years

Defeatist? I know for a FACT that I can't win it all. I'm 63 years old. I do not play for the Hawks. However, I cheer just as hard for the Hawks now as I would if they were in the running for an NC every year.

I have contributed thousands of $$'s to the Athletic program and purchased tix and attended games for 40 years. I've attended road games. I never miss a game on TV when I don't go. My wife (no pic) and I attended Iowa, as did our 3 children. We have been Hawk fans through thick and thin. What is it, exactly, that you do to make you a better fan than I am?

The worst part of the fan base are those that say other people are poor fans for some reason.

KF has had Iowa close a couple times . Plus Iowa won the National title already as a previous poster stated.

What difference does it make if people are “defeatists” (I would say realists? We don’t affect recruiting.

Agreed and I’m in a similar situation; although a little younger. Even my 1 year old has season tickets for basketball, football and wrestling. I was hoping someone would respond back to him before I had to.

The deck is completely stacked against a team like Iowa and the rules aren’t the same for every team. It’s not to say it can’t be done, but it’s a long shot. Iowa has to be near perfect to make the playoff where an sec team can not even win their division and get a shot.

It's a tall order, but I absolutely believe Iowa COULD repeat as National Champions, sure. I mean, the Cubs won the World Series didn't they?

I don't think it is out of the question. We were a win away a time or two.
However, it would take a perfect storm. There was a time when teams like Iowa had a sluggers chance. Now with the internet, recruiting services, southern migration, playoffs and corruption it is far more difficult.
- Talent doesn't get overlooked as often
- Northern Teams have less local talent
- Corruption buys talent
- Playoffs make it more likely to get a
Shot, but more difficult to win it.

Lol. His best team had its ass handed to it in the orange bowl. The 12-0 team played absolutely no one and was a fraud based on the stanford flogging. Neither team were anywhere close to a title. Being close is proving it on the field at the end of yr against a top 4 team. Kf has never and will never do that

Its all going to be how we recruit and what we are willing to give up to win. KF will never recruit the needed players because those players will do things that piss him off.
He is a stick in the mud the game is consistently changing and he isn't.
He is great for pro teams but doesnt relate for us.

Definitely would take a year where nearly everything would have to go right. The margin of error is so small. First, getting in position through 13 games to get into the final 4, and then winning those 2 playoff games against programs loaded with talent year in and year out. It would essentially be the equivalent of crashing someone else's party and being allowed to stay.

We potentially could have the roster next year that could pull it off. However, we'll also need to have a lot of leadership step up internally to get to a point where the players themselves enforce the accountability necessary to maintain the focus to win that consistently AND at that high of a level.

Furthermore, as is the nature of the beast in college football ... we need the ball to bounce in our favor a bit too.

Chew on this one ... if Iowa doesn't beat OSU last year ... then maybe OSU aces 'Bama out for a spot in the playoffs.

Thus, even considering Alabama's relative dominance ... even THEY needed the ball to bounce in their favor in this instance.

Defeatists .... not at all ... I'm still holding out hope that Lupita Nyong'o might look favorably upon polygamy.

I think there's at least a chance in the next 30 years that we win a NC. But I also think we'll need help, like not playing 1 or 2 tough teams, having few injuries, having juniors return, other conferences/schools being down. Plus there's always the chance that if we get to a nc game, we could benefit from penalties. So I think there's a chance, but a slim one.

Yeah, the college football climate hasn’t changed a bit since 1960. Name all of the Northern teams, outside of Ohio St, that have won the National Championship in the last 20 years.

This is spot on.

Although I do think it's possible, if the stars align, for Iowa to make the CFP somewhere down the road for the simple fact the B1G Ten West will most likely be weak for the foreseeable future. Get to the conference title game and win and you have a shot at getting in.

Expecting Iowa to beat two significantly more talented teams from the South in a row like that, though, is very unrealistic.

But CFP is an outside possibility. They about did it in 2015.

I"m old enough to remember what it took for Iowa to be # 1. The University isn't going to let KF recruit like Elliot did to bring in the talent for those kind of teams. He had players that were great but didn't see the inside of a classroom. The best job they had in there life was a bouncer at the hawk ballroom. When Bump took the AD job he decided Iowa would start recruiting students and the party was over.
