Kevin Mccarthy, the presumptive next Republican Speaker of the House has stepped aside. Its always fun when the unexpected happens in this world.

If we get back to conservative values and intelligent thinking, there might be hope for Congress yet. Can't say I blame him. Dealing with the crazies hell bent on damaging the country as well as the reputation of the Republican party, combined with his unfortunate penchant for telling the truth, not to mention his foibles with the English language would have made his speakership a nonstop side show.
Okay Clinton.Simply put, you cannot tell the truth and be a conservative.
What is a real conservative? The bomb every one guys are neocons who you reject. The wall street supply siders are Rinos. Are the real cons the religious value voters? If we get back to conservative values and intelligent thinking, there might be hope for Congress yet.
The neo-cons and Rinos have crippled the party.
I think this probably is the only issue in the past decade where the Republican Party seems completely united on something.Kevin Mccarthy, the presumptive next Republican Speaker of the House has stepped aside. Its always fun when the unexpected happens in this world.
You have a unique take on unity.I think this probably is the only issue in the past decade where the Republican Party seems completely united on something.
And nobody wants a light boehner.Best news all day long. McCarthy was Boehner-Lite.
It would be nice to think there was some decent conservative who could fill the job. Or have all decent conservatives already been driven out of the GOP?I am not saying that all is well in R-dom in the House...but with the way that McCarthy stumbled, and I do mean badly, out of the gate...I guess I am glad he is getting out of the way early. Because I sure wasn't seeing him coming on as a strong player and/or solving anything going forward, so let's cut our losses now and move on.
That being said...I hope that someone strong and reasonable emerges before the infighting takes total control. Overall, I see this in a positive light.
"Congressman and Chairman of the House Weighs and Means Committee Paul Ryan, who endorsed McCarthy here at Townhall earlier this week, has also issued a statement."
Who knew there was a "Weighs and Means Committee"? Gotta love Townhall.

[if you were wondering, Ryan said he would not be a candidate for Speaker]

This almost makes me wish I had paid attention to the PP hearings. If that's what you are talking about. My favorite part from the FoxNews article
Shortly after announcing his candidacy, McCarthy was seen to stumble in a Fox News interview where he appeared to link Hillary Clinton's dropping poll numbers to the congressional Benghazi committee. His comments fueled Democratic charges that the committee is merely political, which GOP leaders deny.
Amid the backlash over McCarthy's Benghazi remarks, Chaffetz entered the leadership race over the weekend.
So Chaffetz is still considered the front runner after the beating he took at the hands of Cecile Richards. The guy can't even get his facts straight yet he's going to be the speaker of the house. Only in America.
This is a good thing the guy had way too much baggage!
Yep. I was never big on McCarthy for Speaker. Will be very interesting to see how this plays out.
There are a few rumors of a potential affair being had too. I know it's from Redstate, but we shall see if it has legs.

It's not clear to me that he wasn't one of the crazies. Maybe not the most extreme kind, but out there a little bit. Can't say I blame him. I think you're right. But he still wasn't crazy enough for the rest of the GOP.It's not clear to me that he wasn't one of the crazies. Maybe not the most extreme kind, but out there a little bit.
Huffpo mentions Renee Ellmers R NC.
It would be nice to think there was some decent conservative who could fill the job. Or have all decent conservatives already been driven out of the GOP?
Can anyone think of one?
It is an oddity that you don't need to be an elected member of Congress to be Speaker of the House. But, I think this is more about Newt getting Newt's name out in the press. He gets itchy if people don't talk about him.Gingrich is open to coming back as speaker. Just in time to shut down the government again.

This was set into motion years ago when Boehner decided he would pander to the Tea Party types to regain control of the House. He foolishly thought he could control them.
Probably but I'll leave that to our experts.WOB?
