Since there is nothing much going on I have wondered why you don't see many recruits from the State of Minnesota, so I decided to determine their contribution to the football pool based on their population. It was interesting, so I compared it to Iowa's and Nebraska's:

Minnesota Pop: 5.4 million (1) 4 star, (13) 3 star, (7) 2 star and 42 unranked recruits*
Iowa Pop 3.1 million (1) 4 star, (5) 3 star, (6) 2 star and 46 unranked recruits*
Nebraska Pop: 1.8 million (0) 4 star, (6) 3 star, (2) 2 star and 101 unranked recruits*

*only high school player data

On another subject, something else I found interesting was that Michigan's roster contained 23 Ohio natives and Michigan State's contained 25.

This is all based on 2016 RIVALS data.

Population of Michigan, 9,900,000
Population of Ohio 11,630,000

There are seven Division I football teams in Ohio.

How do you become an un ranked recruit and why such a huge disparity in that number?

I guess we need to root for Cincinnati to join the Big 12 and get really good so they can start draining some of the talent pool.
Or root for the B12 to dissolve so Iowa's left with 1 P5(4) school.

That's interesting. I wonder why we haven't recruited Minn harder. They only have 1 d1 school, and they have a terrible program. With double the in state talent that Iowa has, you would think that would be a prime target for us. Who was the last Minn kid we had start for us? Did Tom Busch come from there?

Wisconsin has recruited Minny well. We usually take 1 or 2 a year. A lot more talent in Missouri.

Simply not given consideration (stars). I don't have any idea why there is such a disparity, but there it is.

Anyone else with some help with this one, do they need to submit a questionnaire to be considered "no stars" or ???? A state with 5.4 million has 42 unranked kids and a state with 1.8 million has 101. Color me confused on this one.

Rivals must have some formula.

My guess is someone took an "all state" list and dumped it into the data base. I assume you get no stars until someone evaluates you. In the end, how many of the unrated kids even need to be listed?
