Possibility Nunge Redshirts?

Until Daily, Williams, and now Nunge prove themselves in games, I won't hold my breath. I thought Nunge was going to do great, but if my memory is correct his European trip didn't come out very well in any area. Seems like his 3 shooting was way down, rebounds too. Hope it changes tho.

In the info posted about Coach Francis, he said in his interview that Jack was shooting the ball really well. To your point Jack has yet to do it in a college game.....but my wild guess is that he will. It really, in my opinion only, comes down to the depth we have. I think Jack could play this year and play well for the Hawks....that said, he may not play because of Cook, Pemls, Kriener, Garza, Wagner, and Baer all being able to fill key roles where Nunge could fit.

Win now. If Nunge's better now, play him. If he really is shooting that well, with the athletic ability he has, he'll be playing better than someone in the list of players he's competing against.

Coach Francis' appearance was great, saw it live. What he said about Connor was exactly what I thought was possible all along, IF summer/Europe/fall practices convince coaches and Connor that the team is clearly better with him as back up point he ain't redshirting.

To a large degree it comes down to CW demonstrating the ability to run the point. Timing, spacial recognition, and situational awareness are skills a pg needs and that CW to date has simply not shown. Quite the opposite in fact. CW has shown skills for sure, but not an ability to run the offense. If that hasn't changed, we need Connor playing this year.

Glad to hear that the coaches haven't fully decided whether Connor will redshirt, because back up PG is clearly the biggest possible weakness that could keep the team from achieving big things. This is Connor and Fran's decision, and I suspect it also depends on Connor's likelihood to get playing time on the baseball team, which I know nothing about. I appreciate the information!

Pretty sure Moss redshirted
Correct. Moss redshirted, because he was unable to be in Iowa during the summer, because he was finishing or cleaning up class work from high school. I think all involved thought his best course was to redshirt, and get his academics off to a solid start, before hitting the floor.

You remind me of some of the people that were completely down on Bohannon before he even saw the floor. If he shows flashes even remotely close to what Moss did last year, after having a full year under his belt, I will be ecstatic. The idea of a tall, slasher type that can handle the ball and see the floor well is pretty intriguing to me. Sorry to be so positive. Good lord.

Moss was always a better player.

Daily will have to somehow make a big jump to get to the level Moss was at last year.

I don't see the fascination with Dailey either. Watched him again this summer, and he didn't impress.... but on the internet he is going to be a stud. He has done absolutely nothing to date and is totally being over-recruited. Not sure he will ever see the floor at Iowa.....

Dailey's got a big challenge this year. But it's really not to be a starter like Moss but a better option than CW or Ellingson in given defensive or offensive situations by the end of the year. That would put him on the depth chart.

Where are people coming up with Nunge as a starter?

Did he show something at Prime Time, or on the Euro trip that I wasn’t aware of?

He plays. The reality is that the incoming recruits are better than the upperclassmen (specifically Uhl and Wagner). This trend will continue the next couple of years. It's great for the program.

This. Fran is now in upgrade mode. People will either sit or play.

Don't expect him to start, butJack did lead Prime Time in scoring as I recall - not too shabby.

didnt fleming do the same thing?

I've only seen one poster say Nunge could start. Maybe there are more but I haven't noticed.

As to Fleming, I believe his issue was a general lack of playing within the system on either end, much like Dickerson before him. We can always find lemons to suck on but not sure why we want to...

In practice us where lineups will be determined I believe, then in games as the non conference plays out. Injuries will play a big part. My opinion is tight now.
Jordan Bohannon
Isaiah Moss
Nicholas Baer
Tyler Cook
Luna Garza
I'm not sure how long this lineup remains the same but early on I envision a wholesale change to a second unit. Barring injury
Christian Williams
Brady Ellingson
Dom Uhl
Ahmad Wagner
Cordell Pemsl
Leaving
Jack Nunge
Maishe Dailey
Ryan Kreiner
Walk ons
Austin Ash
Riley Till
Charlie Rose
And red shirt likely
Connor McCaffery
So already I'm seeing my first mistake as I think Ryan Kreiner needs to replace someone on that second group but replaces who ? Dom ?, Wagner ?
I expect some early blowouts where players like Nunge, Dailey, can show enough to push or even replace guys that may be temporarily ahead of them. Good to great competition in practice, there are going to be battles from pt. Nay the best player win and the ones that don't support their teammates as an injury here it there puts them right back on the line. Opportunities will open up and I hope they all stay ready. Can't wait !!!!!!!!
