I'm not sure I agree with your assessment of when people will be drafted. And your last statement really doesn't make sense based on the list of people. The only major losses on defense are Jewell, Neiman and Jackson. And on offense the major losses are Wadley and Welch. That's not a lot of players to lose. We had a lot of underclassmen playing this year, so the hope is they are even better next year and we see an overall improvement.

Welch and Meyer have really been flying under the radar, I have no idea who either of them are.
You really don't know who our All-B1G senior offensive lineman and other 2 year senior OL starter who missed this year with an injury which was discussed here almost daily are?

Edit - I'm guessing I missed the sarcasm since both names are spelled incorrect. At least I hope that is the case.

I want to be first to say it. So why are we 7-5?

Although I'm not happy about the 7-5, it probably has something to do with us playing the 4th toughest schedule in the country according to Sagarin.

The solid picks are the only 4 I think that are drafted. Could always be wrong. Butler will depend on his 40 time. Bazata's measurables are not what the NFL takes in draft picks. Meyer, no way coming off an injury. FA signing perhaps Nieman would have to record a great 40 time.

All the others are the longest of long shots.

This. Having 4 guys drafted doesn't indicate that your roster is overflowing with great talent. Sagarin liked Iowa a lot (ranked 22). Teams Iowa lost to were ranked 4, 5, 19, 26 and 35 in Sagarin. Wins over 6 and 25.

Niemann may be our best pro when we look back 10 years from now!?!?

Jackson 1-2
Jewell 2-3
Wadley 4-6
Welsh 6-fa
Neimemann 6-fa
Butler fa
Boetger fa
Meyer fa
Vandeberg fa
Kulick fa
Bazata fa

And half of the free agents will be cut before season and we are assuming Jackson goes, he is great but he needs to get better in zone coverage sometimes leaves a big gap between him and the safety.

The predictions are a little more bullish than I would suppose.
Crown "Jewells" (early to mid rounders) - Jewell, Jackson, Welsh

Mid-to-Late rounders - Wadley, Niemann

Most other guys will get a chance based on their health and how Iowa's pro-day goes. Ferentz's connections at least ensure that they get a sniff (for guys who get the Ferentz endorsement).

As I look back at how similar Iowa O-linemen have gotten drafted ... my guess is that Welsh might go later than I'm supposing. I'm still shocked at what the NFL thought of Blythe and Walsh. The main thing that might work in Welsh's favor is that he's versatile ... he's gotten extensive game reps at both OG and OT ... NFL teams love position versatility. Furthermore, he saw a whole spring working a lot of the time at C. If Welsh gets picked ahead of the 6th round, I believe it's because NFL teams think that his versatility offers him extra value.

Even if it is 5 players drafted, it puts you among the elite...last year only 15 teams had 5 or more players drafted. The exciting thing is, the roster next year appears to be full of potential NFL talent.

I would say Wadley, Jewell, Jackson, and Niemann are the most likely to get drafted. Welsh is too small by NFL standards, but he'll probably get a free agent contract at least. Butler and Bazata could also sign free agent contracts. Don't know if any of those three would make a team or not. Myers and Boettger are crapshoots because of their injuries. I don't think they'll have much of a shot this year, but could heal and at least get a tryout the following year.

MVB doesn't have the speed he once had; no shot. Pekar couldn't even start in a two-TE lineup; no shot. Kulick is a fullback; no shot. Bower and Taylor? You just threw those in so we could all have a laugh, right? I don't think they could make the CFL or even the Arena League (if that still exists). They have no speed and incredibly bad football instincts/smarts. No way in hell.

I agree. He's like Hitchens in a lot of ways. NFL linebackers have to be able to cover TE and RBs on passing plays. He's proven that's a specialty of his. He might Iowa's fastest linebacker, too; faster than Jewell, yes (though not the same type of quickness/burst nor the same NFL-caliber instincts, but Jewell exceptional in those two areas).

Actually the so-called fans around here can thank the defense for a 7-5 record, if not for the defense that 7-5 might be something far worse like 3-8.

Boettger was predicted to go in rounds 4-6 on many boards before his injury. If he is healthy by the combines, he could possibly still go in the late rounds. I don't see anyone outside of him and your solid picks being drafted. Lot's of USFA opportunities though.

This looks more likely than the OPs projections.
I could see Jackson going in the 2nd, Jewell the 4th, Welsh 4-5, Wadley 6th to FA. Niemann maybe 6-7 but more likely FA. Probably quite a few others that will get FA chances.

Sorry if already discussed, can Boettger and Myers get an extra year due to injury? Seems like they missed damn near the entire season.

Boettger and Meyers were hurt the whole year, too, so people are expecting improvement from the freshmen who replaced them in the lineup. Even when Boone played, he wasn't himself. Taylor, meanwhile, got beat out by returning players, as did Pekar (who I respect and am grateful to, but is NOT likely an NFL guy). And Jackson is a Junior who has not declared for the NFL. He's capable of going high, but that does not guarantee he leaves.
