Potential Pitt Opening..McCaffery?

If Fran wants the job, he will leave. I realize he is happy, but wasn't the media who drove off Lute? I am sure the media here will soon get on Fran's Nerves. If he wants it, he can go.

Personally I think he is doing just fine. I realize everyone wants National Titles and Conference Championships, but were Iowa. We have not had that type of success in a long time. We have had 3 straight 20 win seasons (6 years ago were coming off our 3rd 20 LOSS season). We have been to the NCAA the past 3 years and we won 2 games. We have not made it out of the first weekend mainly because we have gotten "tough" draws (Zags in Seattle, Nova in NYC).

This group of seniors that is leaving won 89 games. They got Iowa back to the NCAA tournament. This group of seniors were not McDonals All Americans. They were solid players who played their guts out for the U of I. They left the program in a better place, than what it was when they arrived. Iowa has some young talent and some good recruits coming. Will they be top 10, I don't know? Depends on how hard they work and how they buy into the program. I think Fran will keep the momentum going and I think you will see Fran and company on the Bubble again next year.

Oh great another Kirk Ferentz who cares how you actually perform , just do the minimum get big pay raises , have a fluke big year and easy money this Iowa .... and don't forget the d1 scholies for the kiddies ( when no other D1 school would even consider any of their kids, yes KF's kids were not good dont kid yourself, same as Mac slow stiff kids ).
yeah I mean you don't have to be good to play in the NFL and you're high if you think otherwise

My God this board is losing its effing mind

Please leave and take your future recruits ( yes, his way overrated slow soon to be useless in the Big 10 kids ). Alford , Licklighter, and McCaffery wow Dr. Tom where are you !!!
I think Fran will get us past Dr. Tom's level but not if he isn't willing to make some minor adjustments. 3 years in a row he has stuck with seniors that were not getting it done. I applaud him for the longer leash but he has to cut the cord sooner.
1A. Fran 1B. Davis

Alford is several levels below those two with Lickliter cleaning up the dog feces in the park.

Uh, who exactly would you have played over those seniors?

I am talking about Zach, Josh, and the combo of MG/AC this year. MG and AC should not have been starting together. Teams figured out they weren't threats and it caused the funk. Last year Josh killed all offensive rhythm when he came into the game. Zach was never able to overcome his funk either. Fran also has to stop taking guys out if they get their 2nd foul in the first half. He is so rigid with this instead of letting the flow of the game dictate when to keep a guy out there. I am a Fran supporter and want it to work out but he did a piss poor job adapting to his team this season. I am giving him a pass with hopes it isn't just him being stubborn.

Yeah I dont know if they would consider fran an upgrade from dixon
I wouldn't think Fran could even get an enterview at Pitt. Dixon's career record at Pitt is 325-118 for 73.3% while Fran's record at Iowa is 118-85 for 58.1% and his career 369-262 for 58.5%.

This is where stat geeks fail because they fail to look at the details when comparing. Dixon's head coaching career outside of one year is entirely at PITT. He took over a revived program that he was an assistant under Howland at.

Fran's record is no where near Dixon's but he has gone into 4 down programs at the time and built them into an NCAA tourney participant. Dixon has no such experiences as a head coach himself so he's never proven he can do the type of build required by TCU.

I do not care if Dixon goes or not. There must be either some 'next level' fans breathing down his neck or he wants a big pay day because his name has been rumored before over the years for openings including Iowa's back when Fran was hired but he wanted big time bucks (over 3 million plus). Maybe TCU will pay that. Still not a great job but if the money is right it's his retirement nest egg.

It would go something like this, "He has multiple 20 win seasons, 3 straight 1st team all conference selections, NIT runner up, 3 straight NCAA Tournament appearances, two second round wins and two blowout losses in the round of 32. In addition, he has done this at multiple schools.

You forgot one thing.......The attendance at Carver has continued to ri$e

I'm not eager for him to leave. Overall Fran has done a good job. Whether or not they can be better than a mid seed with an unceremonious second round tourney dismissal remains to be seen.
But, if he decides to go elsewhere I'll wish him well and thanks for what he's done. I won't be particularly bothered by him leaving, though.

The definition of a pundit is that of someone who is an expert in a particular field. You use that title why?

Maybe Dixon did take over a successful program but I don't think Howland has been recruiting and developing Pitt since. If Dixon wasn't an excellent recruiter and a coach who could develop players someone else would have been rebuilding Pitt long before now.

Really - Fran is not going anywhere... He will get a bump in pay... Look at he talent he has.. that is already here and what is coming in... The 2016/2017 team is going to be real good ... the athleticism of the guys....
Give these guys a break.. give them a year to develop... They are going to need a leader....I think they will be more firepower next year then on any of Fran's team's as a Hawkeye coach...

- Jok
- Uhl
- Willams
- Wagner
- Hutton
- Moss
- Baer

Coming in
- Cook
- Pemsl
- Bohannon

I am with you on next year. There are the athletes like no Iowa team has had in years. They just need some experience. That said we will have 10 guys that have over a year in the program come next season... Will they get to the top 5 in the country? Not next year. But they will beat some good-to-great teams. Count on it.

Also, you forgot Jones, Fleming, Ellingson and Kriener. Jones led the team in 3 pt percentage when he got hurt. His surgery went well and he is recovering as expected. Fleming has the athletic potential, and he has the work ethic and attitude to be successful. Ellingson and Kriener are TBD, but there is something there. Kriener is 6'10" 250+ with a wingspan over 7 feet. Plan on seeing a lot of dunks from this fella.

That's funny because anyone from the east coast would consider west of philly to be Midwest. East coast people don't consider penn state to be a northeast team, they are clearly Midwest.

In my experience (12 years on east coast with sons in PA) and the people in rural PA are much more like midwest folks versus big city east coast. FWIW

If you look at Brad Underwood's pedigree he has worked under some good coaches, including Bob Huggins. He has paid his dues so he is more than a flavor of the month. Of course, you could say that Tom Herman at Houston was a flavor of the month and look how that has worked out.
I doubt he would leave Okla State.
