The 75th annual Labor Day weekend Powwow is taking
place at Black Hawk State Park in Rock Island. This is
a time for Native American dancing, drumming, plus
arts and crafts. The Sac, Fox, Meskwaki are among the
tribes represented. About 3,600 spectators attended
yesterday. A bigger crowd is expected today.

Any HROTers ever attend this event?

Those who live in the Quad Cities realize that this is a big
event for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to honor our
Native Americans. I have attended 4 or 5 times.

No, I am
not a Native
American so
I did not
attend. I was
not sure if
whites were
allowed or if
it was simply
for the Native
Americans. Lute
did you go? Did
they sell their
wares or crafts
and if so did you
see any bargains
or were things
just normal prices?

We enjoyed the tribal dancing with the drums in the
background. My daughter bought some crafts.
The crowd was composed of all races and nationalities.
Good food and snacks were available.

I think if they are in America they should act like Americans.

I heard it was going to be chilly in Iowa this weekend. Maybe we should bring them some blankets.
