Prediction: Toussaint's continued progress

This year, I’d say no. Staying healthy is probably the biggest factor. Toussaint will not be asked to do a lot offensively besides getting the offense set up and taking care of the ball. His defense is already solid. Anything beyond that would be a gift at this point (or this season).

He is definitely a change of pace defensive guy. Quick hands and quicker feet surprise guys if they aren't paying attention. He's got the body to mix it up inside as well

JT brings that jet like burst of speed with the ball that no one else on the team can match. What he will have to continue to work on is regulating that enough to stay under control.

I fully expect him to progress on both ends over the course of the season, but doubt that it will be steady.

will be the largest factor in whether we dance or not this year.

I'd say hes the largest area left for improvement, although I think CJ and Evelyn can both do more than what they are showing, but even if this team doesn't get much out of him besides solid defensive minutes they will be in the dance.

Really liked how he started the game with it dialed back a bit and then, turned the speed on in spurts, mostly off of his defense. He was much more under control early. Yes, this was not a good team they played, but positive steps none the less.....

Toussaint needs to learn change of speed/pace more than anything. He is fast but teams can adapt to that. If he learns to vary his speed so that teams can't predict what he will do, he will have his way with them.

He needs to be a more consistent passer. It is important to make crisp passes that are received by a shooter in a good spot. He’s all over the place right now.

If Joe can stay under control and work on his finishes (get and1 instead of 2 shot FT) this year, I'll be thrilled. He plays good D and looks to move the ball well, just need a couple of tweaks.

I don't care about his shooting, especially this year.

JoeT needs to learn to control his speed and know when to turn it on. I agree with the early poster who said health will be the biggest key to the season. We can't afford any more injuries. If JoeT plays good defense, doesn't turn it over much, and keeps learning to run the offense, he will be a very important contributor. We don't need a lot of scoring from him.

The original post is pretty shrewd. Joe T has lots of little things to learn. He did a good job today, made some great passes. Locked in hard on defense-getting loose balls, etc.. But the competition is about to get much better.

Joe T is a good PG and will be a great one I think. There will be some frustrating moments, especially since he's aggressive and the B!G refs are rarely friendly to Iowa, especially our more aggressive players.

He's a four year starter. Think we'll bring Jordan off the bench next year. Our back court is stacked for years to come.

Nah, Wieskamp is the biggest factor.

10-0 when JW scores double figures, 0-3 when he hasn’t so far.

Teams will throw their best wing defender at him. How well he does determines our level.

I get this. It has nothing to do with the points he’ll score. Yes, Garza, JW, CJ, CM, RK, BK, CP each have their greater or lesser significant importance to where the team is right now. But with his particular talents as a freshman, JT has the highest potential contribution growth curve (over the next two months) on the team in areas where the team is weakest: penetration and defense.

I want him to stop forcing himself into bad situations and wasting possessions. A couple times yesterday he drove with nowhere to go and just threw the ball up in the area of the hoop. That might as well be a turnover.

If he can drive to pull the D in and pass to a shooter first, while taking a shot only if the D doesn’t collapse on him, he can be much more effective.

I love his defense and many aspects of his game. But he’s young and needs to learn to value each possession because in the Big Ten the other teams won’t be wasting them.

I think his defense is underappreciated, even though everyone recognizes it as his strength. He had 5 steals and 2 turnovers against Kennesaw. He got one loose ball in particular that he had absolutely no business getting to ahead of he Kennesaw player. His quickness is such a game changer on defense, I'm willing to put up with some bad choices on offense until he gets experience.

I was at the game. It looked like he was looking right and just whipped it no-look past about 3 defenders to CJ. Amazing pass.

Another nice play by him. Not sure the time (1st half) or if I’m describing it correctly but I’m sure everyone will know the play. Toussaint got a steal or the ball was knocked away. Toussaint does a nifty little spin move, smooth as hell, and now he has a run out for a lay up. Very fluid.

Not sure if you watched the broadcast since you were there, but Hummel called him “probably” the fastest guy in the league. Not really news, but good complement from someone who can relate pretty well.

Exactly this. And I think it will come, but he's likely to do this occasionally through the season. If he can get what you described under control this year, he'll truly give the Hawks something they haven't had in a long time, a PG that is truly dangerous with the ball in his hands.

I would agree with this...besides his well recognized quickness and speed....he anticipates really well and recovers to a player receiving the ball faster than anyone that we have.

I think Fran is willing to put up with some mistakes as well......I think that Fran pulling him has a lot to do with trying to get him slowed down and locked in.....I think like every freshman that once they make a mistake things can start to spiral out of control (like we saw at Cincinnati) and I think Fran has tried to control that. I believe from what I have seen that Fran will leave him in for some mistakes but watches for his mental focus and getting to hurried up. He will pull him if that happens but not necessarily for just making a mistake.

Also, anyone else notice the team issued white shoes last night? I wonder if Fran told him he wear those until he earns wearing the funky ones by not slipping and falling all of the time like happened in Chicago.

Joe said he'll never wear the Cincy shoes again. They're now for display only. Seems like a pretty good decision. ;)

Still early BUT if teams focus the wing defense on Joe Dub then CJ is going to light them up a lot more often than not.

The last few seasons Isaiah might be hot and burn such a defense but he also could disappear in the same circumstance. Don't see CJ disappearing very often.

Then why were players wearing the hideous black shoes?

He reminds me a lot of Purdue (and nearly Iowa)’s Lewis Jackson. Not quite the same athlete, but just as quick.

I meant on Joe T.
