It is great to be an Iowa Wrestling fan.

Go Hawks!

I don't see Nebraska over OSU for 3rd. Otherwise, I agree with PSU and Iowa 1 and 2. OSU has a pretty good team coming together, and while I expect Iowa to beat them in a dual, it will be closer than some people think.

So in the ranking at 197 that had Buchanan # 2, who was number 1 ?

125 and 141 our weak spots? This lineup hopefully crowns a champ this year and we should finish top 3, hopefully.

I think we are going to be really happy with our guy at 141.
If AJ is clean all season and wins 197 this year what will everyone think?
Do we have head to head Ferrari BROs next or are they both wearing the black.

Okie is going to be extremely tuff with the guys they kept and pulled in, cant wait for the season to start

We should all be checking the temperature in hell, digging a hole in the ground, and stocking up on supplies.

I do think it's hilarious people somehow think it's still possible AJ will end up at Iowa. Not. Happening. That's about as likely as @vhsalum being outed as Lincoln Mac.

You are so predictable, It was just a statement and if he stays clean and wins there will be many conversations had! You know very little and Im not People Jack, the names Grip.

That's a pretty hot take not having Luke Lilledahl ranked at all. He should be considered the odds on favorite right now.

I hope you're 100% wrong.

And if AJ blows his opportunity this year, can we finally put to rest any notion of him ever becoming a Hawk?

I already know the answer here, but ffs

There will be. But not by anyone who matters.

It should already be at rest.

Not sure about the current rankings but most do not rank true freshmen in the preseason. He's really good. No doubt. High potential for PSU to have another solid to excellent point scorer there in 2025.

Right. It's not even about them being "true" freshman. They have no data to rank them. Rankings are an approximation based on results.

So for instance - if Marcus Blaze were to enroll right now as a true freshman (and listed as a 125), he'd be ranked as high as 5 - over Matt Ramos.

And yeah. Lilledahl could win it. It will be interesting to see how good he is on the mat.

agreed, and again I do not like any of the baggage with AJ and not sure even if this happened he would have my vote. Its going to be making headlines though.

Were you ranked as a true freshman at Iowa? :)

The coaches even THINKING about bringing in AJ.
Think about that for a minute!
They just paid fairly big money for two guys on our team that have zero titles to their names.
If AJ wins another title this year and keeps himself completely out of trouble, do you think he will be back to Bakersfield?
If not, where do you see him going?
AGAIN Im NOT Saying its going to happen.

I don't care where he goes. I just hope it's not Iowa. He wasn't worth it before, he's not worth it now. Even if he were to keep his nose clean and win while at bakersfield - he's still not worth it.

The second he gets notoriety/attention/money - you're going to get his true character - and his is the type that gets coaches fired and programs smeared.

I'm sure some dumbazz coach will take AJ at a bigger program next year IF he keeps his nose clean. But as his recruiting tour showed you, there are 0 big programs interested in him now or in the future. That could/probably will change with good behavior - but lets not act like the kid has done anything to improve his character/personality.

AJ will never be a Hawk no matter what. He could be the cleanest guy ever for the rest of his life and he won’t be here. There’s more than 1 reason he’s not at Iowa right now and that’s not even including the SS incident.

They just don't get it. It's hilarious there are people that think that after all his problems Iowa should give him more chances even after he quickly blew the first one. Freaking jock sniffers.

Yup. Hell - he was going to be here even AFTER the SS incident. He's just a bad person on a lot of levels.

Not to mention he’s at least part of the reason there is so much tension around our program. He HURTS all recruiting progress. I’d rather pay him to stay away

Good enough, Im good with that. Going to interesting to see how this plays out and where he ends up.
I hope we can hold onto our Ferrari if AJ goes to one of our competitors

that was my question, grip. if angelo is who we think he is and wants to wrestle where aj is next year. do they let him go.

I don't care if he is awarded a Nobel Peace Prize, I would hope Beth and the admin would put a stop to any AJ discussion immediately.

Last year I was willing to let this all play out, that ended at the finals of the SS.

285 clears out for Ben after this year. Possible 3 timer if he stays with wrestling.
Unfortunately, the timing of this didn’t coincide with our linebackers clearing out next year, giving him his best opportunity in football also next year.

Apparently there are few guys here that think they can just end entirely hypothetical discussions because of what they think! What's funny is they don't read correctly either. I never said I want him to be a hawk in this conversation, frankly I wish he was not in the ncaa any more!
I do not want to lose one of the only blue chippers we have in the room in the last several years, possibly never see him start as a Hawk then have a full 4 years to compete against us. My hope is Angelo is completly locked in at Iowa and what AJ does has no reflection on Angelo.
The season is about to start so I will drop the subject for now, but there is a good possibility by march this will be one of the most discussed threads whether "they" What like it or not.

PS- I do not like AJ at all, I really hope Buchanan takes him out, but I think he wins 197 this season

Hello, World.
I posted this on Intermat. Sharing here.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So far Intermat, Flo, and Wrestlestat have published their pre-season rankings.

  • Intermat has Ferrari #1 at 197
  • Flo has him #4 behind Stephen Buchannan, Jacob Cardenas, and Rocky Elam, but ahead of Stephen Little (UALR), Isaiah Salazar (Minn), Michael Beard (Lehigh), and Silas Allred (Neb).
  • Wrestlestat has him #67 behind a list too long to type.
I think putting him #1 is madness. Sure he has a national title, but I keep going back to my firmly held belief that no one gets better at wrestling by not wrestling. And the one time we saw him wrestle in the past several years he looked like a blood round guy, at best.

If it was me, I have to rank him just outside the top 8. He is somewhere between a freshman with no college results and no initial ranking, and someone with recent results I can lean on to make an informed ranking decision.

Hilariously, Intermat made his photo black and white because he is in an OSU singlet, but maybe it was an unintentional statement about how long ago that photo was taken.

Buchanan has the advantage of being in our room. He has keuter , Angelo, Nelson, Gabe, and Warner to work with. AJ has been away from wrestling for 2 years other than SS, and who does Bakersfield have to push him ?? We definitely know if he has a good year, he will be putting feelers out. We know the brothers always wanted to wrestle together, so unless TnT or Beth made it clear he would never get a chance at redemption at Iowa, they will be talking to him. What’s our plan after Buchanan? Have a hole for a few years and hope Angelo can grow into 197, then have a hole at 184?

I love the Buchanan pick up and think he will thrive.
Most of the “people” on here are saying no way for an AJ return!
I hope he is out of the picture so Angelo can succeed in cementing his legacy at IOWA.
Time will tell
