PASADENA, California – University of Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz announced Sunday that senior tight end Jake Duzey will not participate in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1 when the Hawkeyes (12-1) meet Stanford (11-2). Duzey re-injured his knee during practice on Friday. Duzey had seen limited action in nine games after suffering a major injury during spring drills.

“We all feel badly for Jake and the fact that this injury will keep him from playing in the game,” said Ferentz. “Jake has worked extremely hard since his initial injury in the spring, and has contributed to the success of our season in a number of ways.”

The Rose Bowl will be played Jan. 1, with a start time of 4:10 p.m. CT. The contest will air on ESPN.

Thanks Jake for all the thrills you gave us. We will miss you and our hearts go out to you & your family. Best of luck in the future & thanks for being such a great Hawkeye!!!

I just don't get why they didn't just shut him down early fall and go for the medical redshirt. What a shame. You could tell early on that our TE'S were going to be solid and he wasn't going to be needed.

Unfathomable to me.

Getting a 6th year wasn't a given. He did what he could to help participate in a special season. Unfortunate not unfathomable.

I feel bad for the kid.

But, from a team or fan standpoint, we couldn't hope for a better injury. He hasn't played much this year so it's not like we should miss him that much.

Still suck for Duzey though.

Too bad...showed a couple of flashes. That td vs. OSU was amazing. Thought he was a superstar in the making.

Still glad for his contributions that he made as a Hawkeye. When healthy he's got talent..who knows..maybe he can buck the odds and catch on as a free agent. One in a million..but still a chance. :)

Coaches can give opinion but the student-athlete would ultimately make this decision. I have no idea on conversations between coaches, doctors and Jake but Jake gave it his best shot this year and helped lead team to a very special season! Cannot have regrets when u lay it on the line!

It was likely Jake's call. Perhaps he has had enough college and wants to move on with life.

Man, I feel for the kid. Hawkeye through and through. I hope he doesn't have any regrets about this season and realizes his value to this team.

Morehouse tweeted yesterday that Duzey made the decision to play this year and that he didn't want to do a medical hardship.

While I feel terrible for Jake and his family, he was not a significant contributor on the field in 2015 and I would rather lose him for the RB than any offensive starter or Kittle. It's been a tough year for Jake, but 'that's football'.
