It is great to be an Iowa Wrestling fan.

Go Hawks!

Burn PKs RS in a meaningless dual against Princeton?!?

Yeah, I'd rather not. Dude is a potential 4x high AA. We need that guy in the lineup next year.

Poetically same with Schriever but maybe a bit below PK ceiling.
well he will be in the lineup next year regardless if he wrestles Friday or not. Its whether he wants to be in college for 5 or 6 years.

Don't know if he does or not, but there seems to be a shitload of athlete's around the country who are hanging around for 6 years these days.

Guess it depends on what your long term plans are, if you have one. And even if you do have a plan, life has a way of changing them for you as time moves along. Time will tell.

Iowa has a few Football starters who will be participating in Senior Day activities with their parents this weekend, but could and might return next year. Riley Moss, Kyle Scott and one other I don't recall.

My advice to anyone and everyone: stay in college for as looooong as possible. The real world sucks.

I always cringe when I hear highschoolers brag about how many college credit classes they have so they will only have to go to college for three years. If that’s the case, I hope they’re planning on changing their major about six times, to get back on the 5-6 year plan, lol.

That's a boatload of unnecessary student debt just to have fun.

Todd, would love to hear your reasoning for wanting PK to wrestle tomorrow night.

he probably is the next best guy, behind MK but wondering if was an error on you part in you forgot PK was still in a potential redshirt.

well dont we all want to see him be a 4x aa but we do not know what he is thinking in regards to being in college for 5-6 years.
Yeah for sure! Maybe Kem just isn't all the way to 84 yet and PK plans to start at 74 all season... For all the sensitives, please know this was sarcasm-ly joking!

I teach and coach. I always tell kids that college is a marathon, not a sprint.

This coming from a guy that took 6.5 years, a couple summer semesters, and 182 credit hours to get an undergrad degree...

A rare response from me. My only one on this as well. Good question presented to me. I was going to do a blog on 165 before the Luther Open because I saw this weight being seriously challenged.

I want the wrestler at each weight for Iowa that is going to score the most points at the NCAA National Tournament because every single point will be needed to win. I do not know who the best is when Patrick Kennedy is in the picture. Not so sure anyone knows that answer on November 18. A lot of development can occur in the four months before NCAAs. PK has had a year in the program. The future is now.

I have no inside information and my views are certainly nothing personal. I am a huge fan of AM. I believe PK has already made AM a better wrestler. However that is not why an elite recruit like PK chose Iowa. He picked Iowa to be The Man.

This is a type of situation that Gable guy won a lot of NCAA team titles from.

As always I just want Iowa Wrestling to win and I want to be entertained.

I will now go back to reading responses.

Go Hawks!

Crazy advice

Has anyone hypothesized that the team could be conservatively preserving SL's redshirt, so he can lead the young team to next year's NCAA championship, if at the end of the year it looks like he's not really needed this March or he would be in a better position to win his 4th title health-wise?

After all, Iowa has plenty of senior leadership this year, and SL is likely to stay in Iowa to focus on international freestyle goals.

I know, it seems odd, but all the focus on Ybarra's redshirt getting burned got me thinking of SL's being available. It wouldn't be the worst thing to keep that option available, would it?

It isn't that crazy of a thought. I was mislead by Lee's comments and the fact he wrestled in the wrestle offs to think he'd be going against Glory for sure. But since he isn't going it implies he may be worse off than we were led to believe. I could see a scenario where he goes to Midlands unattached to see how he is really feeling in a tournament situation and then maybe make a decision after that, but I'm assuming he'll be our 125lber by the end of the season.

Good post, and interesting angle.

I also wonder if TnT are more open to burning some shirts because of the logjam created by the bonus year. I’m not sure how this all works, but will schools need to either cut down on new recruits or burn some schollies?

Yep. Priorities differ I guess. I was one of those that graduated in 3 years. I wanted to start a family and make money instead of spending money at a University where you don’t learn real world skills.
If you wanted to make money, why did you start a family? Mine just sucked me dry. 🙂

And yes, priorities differ, as do individual maturation rates, and job/field educational requirements and opportunities. 11 years for me, counting grad school (a "real world" requirement) while raising 2 kids. Thankfully in my field they pay you to go to grad school, at least enough to buy Spam, rice, and most importantly, hunting/fishing/trapping licenses.

I would have thought of Spencer’s had any chance of redshirting this year, he would have had surgeries to repair both knees immediately after he pulled out of the open.

that would have given home the largest window for recovery and setting himself up for the 2023 Workd team (to make the olymytrials finals hopefully)

I believe his #1 goal is to do all he can do to help the Hawks win another Team Title, with the boys he's been rolling with for several years on this team, and this Coaching Staff.

He had options, his Parents, Coaches and Doctor's I'm sure went thru all of them and now we're here.

125: Match Im most looking forward to. Ybarra battles but loses by decision. 0-3
133: Cant see Schreiver starting. Desanto by tech. 4-3
141: Cradle him up Ironman. 10-3
149: Im thinking Turk gets the call. Should be by more but a decision is his MO. 13-3
157: 2nd best matchup for me. KY will look better this year. 16-3
165: Bull with the pin. 22-3
174: If Brands, will be interesting to see at this weight. Regardless, we get win. 25-3
184: Abe Assad rights the wrong with a pin. 31-3
197: Glazier with first start in Carver. Gets hard fought win. 34-3
Hvy: No brainer. Cass pins in first so we can hit 40. 40-3 Hawks win.

Yeah. No Turk. He got beat by the underclassman who got the nod. Surprised?

I thought Reyna beat him. I like the idea of Siebriecht in Carver. Wonder whats up with Assad.
Yeah it was Reyna who then MFF the final at Luther. Assad- dunno. Wilson looks to have grown into the weight and wrestling well enough to get the U23 world team spot. Looking forward to see how Brands looks at 174 as well.
