Priority Spring/Summer Visitors and Likely/Potential Commits for Swarm19

I actually think things are proceeding well right now. We need to get some big skill position commits going, but the guys we are getting commits from are solid. Our average star rating might end up a little lower for Swarm 19 but these guys aren't bad at all.

HOLY SH!T that kids more ripped probably more than any current Hawkeye .. besides for B Smith.. is a rock too.. impressive!

QUOTE="Harbinger273, post: 5285156, member: 64235"]Saw That Luke Fulton was able to make it in for a visit. That is a big visit for us and I hope he thoroughly enjoyed it. He's a top 5 target in swarm19 as far as im concerned.

Obviously we had David Bell in for a visit, but I can't push myself to say he's a likely commit at this point. I think we are looking at Derrick Miller as a likely commit, and Desmond Hutson a potential commit. I'd really like to see Britt commit soon. Alex Howard LB out of Cinci is new on our radar so we'll see what develops. I thought it was good too that we brought in the
QB Trevor Bycznski. I'd like to see an offer go out to him. Ben Hoitink has visited several time and is a great PWO candidate in my mind.[/QUOTE]

Agreed and I am aware of both of those things. Tracy and his impact in a place like Indy was massive. Curious to see where we put our foot down hard this year. Seems like each year we hit an area hard.
I hope Indy is a place we can continue to recruit well. We are seeing new competition in the area from home state Purdue looking to take care of business at home. They are offering earlier and earlier and right on our heels with offers and so forth in the area. Like you said the recruiting stomping ground shifts seemingly annually, but would be good to maintain a stronghold there in Indy.

Just off the top of my head, I thought Hoitink committed elsewhere already. Am I remembering that right?

The “vault” is more like a leaky sieve these days.

We had six commits at this time last year. This year we have seven.
Given that Riley Moss was a grey shirt from last year - technically we're up to 8 guys in the '19 class (Moss, Miller, Endres, Fenske, Campbell, Hutson, Lee, Castro). And, while a lot still depends on the amount of attrition we'll be suffering from, most indicators point to the Hawks having a pretty small class. How small remains to be seen ... preliminarily, it could be as low as 16 ... but, as always, it could swell up to be closer to 20.

Moss won one of the Hurdle events at the Relays. Might be a better athlete than we assumed. I think Blair Brooks won something as well. Drake Relays weekend was kind of a hazy memory for me, though.

Now the number is up to 9 .... (for guys in the class of '19)

DB: Moss, Castro
LB: Campbell, Jacobs
WR: Hutson
OL: Miller, Endres, Jeske
TE: Lee

As some folks have speculated, the number for the class might climb to be in the ball-park of 18 guys.

Duke Olges out of New Trier High in Illinois is looking to set up a visit with Iowa soon. Would be great to get him on campus.

This, another site thinks Iowa is trending up in his recruitment. Versatile player that could project to three positions. Normally I'm not crazy about 6'5" dt's except in this case.

Tom Kakert was able to ask Jalen Hunt a few questions at the Rivals Chicago camp. Kid does not seem real apt to talk, but he did say his top group right now is Mich. State, Iowa and BC. Wants to decide either before or Mid seas.

From the way things sound, we may no longer be in the Hunt for Jalen. See how things develop with some teammates. MSU the likely leader.

There are at least 3 really talented D-linemen in Michigan that Iowa is competing for ... and there are likely others whom Iowa either hasn't offered or whom Iowa doesn't have a chance with. Given the recruiting cycle - will Michigan and Michigan State have room on their rosters to take everyone? If not ... recruiting classes fill up and Iowa's low-pressure pitch likely helps keep our foot in the door.

Another thing that struck me is that we're still clearly going after guys who we are targeting at safety. Given that we graduate 2 guys after '18 and that Amani Hooker will be a JR .... we definitely need to keep an eye to the future as to keeping the position strong and adequately deep.

Although I've read elsewhere that we were looking at Azubuike at RB ... from more recent information, it sounds like we're targeting him at strong safety.

Given that Craddieth will most likely play as a TR FR and that Merriweather appears as a developmental talent ... I can definitely see the need to develop more depth at safety for the future. Riley Moss will be a blue-shirt ... and he's a versatile guy who could probably play at either CB or S ... but he'll likely end up at safety. Given that we lost Taylor to graduation and Clayberg to attrition ... the door could be open for either Moss or Merriweather to see the field on special teams as a TR FR too.

Supposing that 2 of Iowa's true freshmen safeties see action in 2018 (on special teams at the very least) ... that would still give guys from the 2019 class a 2-year buffer in terms of eligibility (if the guy redshirts).

Anyhow, in prior speculations on the '19 recruiting class, I was assuming that we'd be done at safety after Castro's commitment. However, that doesn't appear to be the case. By all indicators, it seems like we aim to land safeties in the class ... and we're keeping an eye on CBs too.

I'm looking at the recruitment of Azubuike as another guy targeted specifically to be groomed for the hybrid S/LB role. He has good athleticism and is bigger than Bob Sanders was.

I'm feeling a commit coming soon. There were a bunch of offers that went out a couple weeks ago and then it went silent with the holiday. I think the staff has circled back around to some of the earlier offers and we are going to see a new commit by Monday for sure.

Are you sure that what you're feeling isn't just indigestion?

In all seriousness ... I hope you're right.

As we know Brock will officially visit on the 22nd of this month. Sounds like he would like to commit in July. Notre Dame may be moving in on him.

Moss won one of the Hurdle events at the Relays. Might be a better athlete than we assumed. I think Blair Brooks won something as well. Drake Relays weekend was kind of a hazy memory for me, though.

Riley is an elite high hurdler, posted a 13.85 at Drake in a qualifying heat which is an all-time Iowa HS record. He broke the Kansas Relays high school record time with a 13.91 earlier which at the time was in the top 3 best times in the 110 M HH posted nationally this year. Riley can scoot.

Blair Brooks under-performed a bit at the State meet finishing 2nd in both the high jump and long jump after winning both of those events last year as a junior. He was also on a couple of qualifying relay teams. Still clearly a great track athlete and looks the part, I like his potential.

Do we really need another DB right now? We seem to be pretty stacked there and at LB.

I say go get some big ole Hoss DTs and WRs.
