Agreed and I am aware of both of those things. Tracy and his impact in a place like Indy was massive. Curious to see where we put our foot down hard this year. Seems like each year we hit an area hard.
I hope Indy is a place we can continue to recruit well. We are seeing new competition in the area from home state Purdue looking to take care of business at home. They are offering earlier and earlier and right on our heels with offers and so forth in the area. Like you said the recruiting stomping ground shifts seemingly annually, but would be good to maintain a stronghold there in Indy.Agreed and I am aware of both of those things. Given that Riley Moss was a grey shirt from last year - technically we're up to 8 guys in the '19 class (Moss, Miller, Endres, Fenske, Campbell, Hutson, Lee, Castro). And, while a lot still depends on the amount of attrition we'll be suffering from, most indicators point to the Hawks having a pretty small class. How small remains to be seen ... preliminarily, it could be as low as 16 ... but, as always, it could swell up to be closer to 20.We had six commits at this time last year. This year we have seven.
Penn.Just off the top of my head, I thought Hoitink committed elsewhere already. Am I remembering that right?
The “vault” is more like a leaky sieve these days.
I hate to say it but I think the roster is going to see a little pruning this year. I'm not saying full on SEC but we need to upgrade the talent and that might 8nvolve some hard conversations.
Now the number is up to 9 .... Duke Olges out of New Trier High in Illinois is looking to set up a visit with Iowa soon. Would be great to get him on campus.
Are ‘chokers’ makin a comeback already...?Duke Olges out of New Trier High in Illinois is looking to set up a visit with Iowa soon. Would be great to get him on campus.
I see that Tommy Eichenberg has set a visit to BC and has them Mich. State and Iowa listed as Warm interests on 247. I would really like to see him set an OV to Iowa!
From the way things sound, we may no longer be in the Hunt for Jalen. See how things develop with some teammates. MSU the likely leader.Tom Kakert was able to ask Jalen Hunt a few questions at the Rivals Chicago camp. Kid does not seem real apt to talk, but he did say his top group right now is Mich. State, Iowa and BC. Wants to decide either before or Mid seas.
There are at least 3 really talented D-linemen in Michigan that Iowa is competing for ... and there are likely others whom Iowa either hasn't offered or whom Iowa doesn't have a chance with. Given the recruiting cycle - will Michigan and Michigan State have room on their rosters to take everyone? If not ... recruiting classes fill up and Iowa's low-pressure pitch likely helps keep our foot in the door. From the way things sound, we may no longer be in the Hunt for Jalen. I'm looking at the recruitment of Azubuike as another guy targeted specifically to be groomed for the hybrid S/LB role. He has good athleticism and is bigger than Bob Sanders was.Another thing that struck me is that we're still clearly going after guys who we are targeting at safety. Given that we graduate 2 guys after '18 and that Amani Hooker will be a JR .... we definitely need to keep an eye to the future as to keeping the position strong and adequately deep.
Although I've read elsewhere that we were looking at Azubuike at RB ... from more recent information, it sounds like we're targeting him at strong safety.
Given that Craddieth will most likely play as a TR FR and that Merriweather appears as a developmental talent ... I can definitely see the need to develop more depth at safety for the future. Riley Moss will be a blue-shirt ... and he's a versatile guy who could probably play at either CB or S ... but he'll likely end up at safety. Given that we lost Taylor to graduation and Clayberg to attrition ... the door could be open for either Moss or Merriweather to see the field on special teams as a TR FR too.
Supposing that 2 of Iowa's true freshmen safeties see action in 2018 (on special teams at the very least) ... that would still give guys from the 2019 class a 2-year buffer in terms of eligibility (if the guy redshirts).
Anyhow, in prior speculations on the '19 recruiting class, I was assuming that we'd be done at safety after Castro's commitment. However, that doesn't appear to be the case. By all indicators, it seems like we aim to land safeties in the class ... and we're keeping an eye on CBs too.
Are you sure that what you're feeling isn't just indigestion?I'm feeling a commit coming soon. There were a bunch of offers that went out a couple weeks ago and then it went silent with the holiday. I think the staff has circled back around to some of the earlier offers and we are going to see a new commit by Monday for sure.
Are you sure that what you're feeling isn't just indigestion?
In all seriousness ... I hope you're right.
Moss won one of the Hurdle events at the Relays. Might be a better athlete than we assumed. I think Blair Brooks won something as well. Drake Relays weekend was kind of a hazy memory for me, though.
What makes you say that? I'm not seeing another high level CB we could realistically grab in this class. Not sure larry tracy has a commitable offer from Iowa anymore fwiw.
I did some dark web searching. #searchwizardWhat makes you say that? I'm not seeing another high level CB we could realistically grab in this class.
