Okay. So, I know people roll their eyes at this sort of thing, but what is the logic behind why game fours of the Stanley Cup Finals and NBA Finals followed almost the identical script?

Is it really believable that all of the sudden in Game 4, on the verge of a sweep, the Celtics magically forgot how to score points and that Luka Doncic suddenly remembered how to guard someone? Or that in the Stanley Cup Finals Sergei Bobrovsky, who has been nearly unbeatable the entire playoffs, all the sudden can’t stop a cold?

I mean, these game fours were an absolute joke. Both teams who were up 3-0 just somehow managed to lay as big of an egg as possible in what could have been the series clinching game. Really?

Makes one wonder how much money sports bettors won over the weekend. Hmmm 🤔.

I always thought that about the NBA, especially in the early 2000s toon much money with each game to be played. Can’t leave it on the table. Also, Sacrementonis owed an apology from the NBA from those years

Get your tin foil tiara. Isn’t a conspiracy. Turns out pro athletes can get hot and cold too, they’re not machines.

which team do you think would have a greater sense of urgency and which team might have some complacency in a 3-0 situation?

It’s not like the team that’s down 3-0 is garbage…they made the championship.

Also, Sacramento is owed an apology from the NBA.

I agree with this. That game was a travesty - refs went into it thinking the Lakers were better and it showed. Same as the Iowa-Florida game.

Don’t think either was intentional but the results were a sham.

Do you remember who you thought was behind it?

The league? Players? Refs? Casinos? The broadcasting network? Multiple?

Whose money and whose table?

Absolutely. Sports are funny that way, I don’t think it’s rigged.

US Olympic hockey team gets annihilated by the Russians one week and beats them in the Olympics the next.

Shit happens
Two miracles in one weekend then?

It’s not like the 1980 team beat Russia 8-1:

It's a long season, and you just went trough 3 series just to get to the finals - chances are you're pretty beat up even though you're up 3-0.

And remember, the goal for the teams up 3-0 is (still) to win the series, not necessarily win it in 4 games.

You fall behind early on the road, you know you got 4 games to win 1...players probably can't help but feel like packing it in tonight and go get 'em in game 5 in your own place.

Nothing to see here...

I respect this explanation.

It’s fun to speculate though.

Sports are rigged my dude. Cricket has been since the mid 70s.

Y’all are too sensible.

I can’t believe I can’t get one poster to entertain this. I mean, isn’t this the Go Iowa Awesome OT board?

Major League Baseball plans to discipline umpire Pat Hoberg following an investigation into a potential violation of sports gambling policies. In a statement Friday, the commissioner's office said Hoberg, a central Iowa native, has decided to appeal the penalty

I believe in these cases and often in others it is likely due to the home team not wanting to get swept and have celebration on home ice/court combined with the 3-0 team getting game 5 back at home so they don’t feel quite the urgency and almost subconsciously would not mind winning it in front of their fans.

I would think if anything it would be more about those road teams slacking off a bit to win it all in front of their home crowds but I don’t even think that’s the case.
