Sike. I've already seen this type of thread 30 times in the last couple of days. What's up with this board's obsession of talking about the same things over and over and over again?

So, what have ya'll seen from Moss at practice since you have him starting!? I think the key is who emerges as the other guard: Fleming, Ellingson, or Moss. Bohannon will play because he has to, Williams and Jok will obviously play, but Iowa needs another guard to emerge.

I see two scenarios:

G - Williams
G - Jok
F - Baer
F - Uhl
F - Wagner

G - Bohannon
G - Williams
G - Jok
F - Uhl
F - Wagner

Jones and Cook backup Uhl/Wagner

In a rebuilding year for the Hawkeyes, you can expect at
least one new freshman to be in the starting lineup.

Jok, Williams, Uhl, Wagner would be the best bets from
this year to be in the starting lineup.

I personally think Moss was the best recruit out of the bunch last year. I think the reason he was red shirted because he didn't get to play in the PTL and he was behind the rest of the players. I think Fran wanted him to concentrate on school and not be so focused on Basketball his first year. Usually after the first year most students athletes get it and understand how to balance the Academics and sports. I think Moss will be a nice addition to the team next year.

I think the starting lineup will mean much less next year than it did last year...much like it was the previous 2 seasons. I think that Fran will regularly play 10-12 guys through the non-conference part of the season, and then narrow - buy likely only to 10 guys - for the conference campaign.

So I think it is much more interesting to talk about depth chart for early next season, than it is to try to project a starting lineup. I am pretty confident the coaches don't even yet know the starting lineup. Here is what I think it will look like at the beginning:

1-Williams, Bohannon
2-Jok, Moss, Ellingson
3-Baer, Hutton, Fleming
4-Wagner, Cook, Jones
5-Uhl, Kreiner, Pemsl

Caviats:

1. I kinda doubt Jones ever returns to what we saw early this season, but I hope I am wrong about that. Second ACL's are a bear. We will see what his character is like.
2. There are plenty of shooters: Jbo, Peter, Brady, Nicolas, Fleming, Jones, Uhl
3. There are plenty of defenders/rebounders: Williams, Baer, Hutton, Wagner, Cook, Kreiner
4. I think the fact that Baer is on both lists will put him at our 30+ per minute guy.
5. There is a clear lack of ball-handlers. So I think that Bohannon is going to be used more than most on this board are projecting at this point...and I actually like that. It has been a long, long time since Iowa has had a PG with both handles and a 3-pt shot. I really hope everyone is wrong about his athleticism. When I see the grit and character with which his brothers have played, and knowing the youngest is frequently the diamond of the family...well I think we might be getting something that will be very fun to watch for four years.
6. I believe the emergence of real "shooters" will determine the success of this team. If Moss, Uhl, Ellingson or Fleming show they can hit the 3-ball with consistency (35%+) then we will see them on the floor quite a bit.

Go Hawks!
