Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII, the groundbreaking 1972 film directed by Adrian Maben, returns to theaters, now digitally re-mastered in 4K from the original 35mm footage with enhanced audio.
Set in the hauntingly beautiful ruins of the ancient Roman Amphitheater in Pompeii, Italy, the film captures Pink Floyd performing an intimate concert without an audience. Filmed in October 1971, the performance features unforgettable tracks such as “Echoes,” “A Saucerful of Secrets,” and “One of These Days.” The breathtaking visuals of the amphitheater, captured both day and night, amplify the magic of the performance, creating a unique and immersive experience. Additionally, the film includes rare behind-the-scenes glimpses of the band working on The Dark Side of the Moon at Abbey Road Studios.
This meticulous restoration led by Lana Topham delivers stunning image and sound quality, featuring a theatrical and home entertainment mix from Steven Wilson in 5.1 and Dolby Atmos. These upgrades enhance the film's depth and clarity while preserving the authenticity and spirit of the original 1972 release. Inspired by the golden warmth of Pompeii’s iconic setting, the remaster transforms this timeless piece into a masterpiece of sight and sound. Experience Pink Floyd like never before through this pioneering audio-visual remaster!

I don't think they ever played the whole film, but I'm pretty sure USA's Nightflight during the 80's would have segments from Live at Pompeii? Would be really cool to see the whole thing in a theater or even on the 55" HD set at home.

I’m probably going to watch it in IMAX. I’m interested to see the behind-the-scenes footage of the band working in the studio on TDSOTM.

Only two showings. Thursday 4/24 at 7p or Sunday 4/27 at 2p.

$21.40 for a ticket.

Was that you that passed me the joint?

Fun story…

We were 19, a year out of HS. We got there very early, maybe 1:00 and parked in the Northeast corner of JTS, just across the street from the Hilton parking lot. Around 4:00-5:00 we were standing between the two vehicles our group of 7 came in passing a pipe as we watch 3-4 men start running across the street from the Hilton lot and converge on a white 4 door. They pull a guy out and put him in cuffs.

When we left the show the car was still there in the lot.

A day or two later there was an article in the DMR about an undercover sting opperation that nailed a large coke deal in the parking lot.

CSB

Great seats right next to the disco ball on the field. Of all the shows I’ve been to, they sounded the cleanest. Sad we’ll never get to see them again, they were made to play The Sphere.

Jefferson Starship concert in Hilton is the only concert I have attended where we actually had security/bumblebee outfit hassle us for smoking a joint. Just ignored him and passed the joint on down the line.

Saw ZZTop Eliminator tour in a packed to the rafter Hilton. We were in the rafters and everyone had a second hand high up there.

Echoes to me is the performance of the movie. To me (yes, I know it was released on an album prior) - that performance was the beginning of Pink Floyd as most people view them yet today. It was as if all the prior pieces of their puzzle came together into that song and as a band they hit their stride.

What would be cool would be if they could somehow recover the missing footage from One Of These Days so it isn't so Nick Mason-centric. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing...but it'd be cool to see all the lost stuff of the others.

Saw this in theaters many different times (midnight Fri/Sat showings) when I was younger...very much like going to concerts back then.

I've posted this before a few times. It's the longest video I can find on the webz. Cool to have on in the background with a beer and getting the grill going.

I grew up in the age where I couldn’t see Pink Floyd, but one of my biggest regrets ever is not going to see Roger Waters when he played up in Minnesota years ago.

I really enjoy his solo albums as well. Me and a buddy planned to go but just never did.

I would have loved to see Pink Floyd in any form, but I guess I’ll have is videos.

Ok after some quick digging found 3 versions about an hour long each on the internet archive.

We saw them in the old Sombrero (Tampa, Fl stadium) during the Animals tour. The sound came from all over the place out of massive speaker banks. Cranes were moving animals around. Awesome show that was topped off by them performing the back side of Dark Side of the Moon. Money, baby!

Not sure if any of you have heard of professor of rock on YouTube, but he had an interesting video talking about Pink Floyd Echoes.

Roger was a musical genius, Sadly IMO he was also the egotistical asshole that divided the band.
