Our DL 260, 295, 287, 257/270

We're clearly outsized. Hopefully we can get into the backfield and create some longer 3rd downs.

We really don't match up well with them.

Probably why they crushed us last year.

It'd favor us if we had any speed rushers (with actual speed................).

Epenesa is the closest to that but he's also still being worked into the rotation slowly.

That and we'll probably be too worried about playing contain with our front 4.........which I'm assuming is a big contributing reason to why we couldn't get consistent pressure against North Texas' seemingly impenetrable O-line..............................Just sayin.

Is there such thing as a DL that weighs as much as the opposing OL?

It's kind of like the difference in height betweeen wide receivers and corners that get brought every game. Every team in the country has wide receivers that are taller than the corners.

I'm still waiting for this d-line put a hurting on a QB. (Which I think they started to against N.Texas) How about some of these batted balls with this tall oline.

This.

Epe looks to have the skills. He's just been able to get away with bowling over opposing tackles, probably since he was 6 years old, and now needs to develop the other techniques that make for a great pass rushing DE. I don't think there's anyone else at the DE position that possesses enough pure quickness to do that. They're all just fine, but Epe's the one with the underlying athletic ability that can make him a force to be reckoned with.
Iowa's front 4 will play the same contain against psu that they always do.

It's actually easier to out-quick a guy than to out-muscle him, so yes to those who say Iowa can neutralize PSU's offensive line size with quickness. I remember when Hayden needed a speed rusher, and he moved LeRoy Smith to DE. Smith went on to wreak havoc and earn all-Big Ten and All-American honors.

Epenesa is probably that guy now and, though inexperienced, could be a key on Saturday night.

I know massive Iowa O-lines over the years have been frustrated at times by defensive quickness. Let's hope the Hawkeyes can out-quick the kitties on Saturday night.
