QC Times article: Garza's rise the product of work, toughness and Dad's plan

Thanks for posting the link. It's a great read about a great kid and an unusual but brilliant family situation. Congrats to Fran for bringing in Luka Garza Inc. and a bunch of smart, talented, hard-working, gritty young men who represent Iowa so well.

This article highlight several points:

1) Genetics play an important part in the
physical makeup of an athlete like Luka.
He got some good genes from his parents.

2) Fathers can have a positive influence
on their son's athletic career. Frank Garza
really has the best interest of his son in his
heart.

3) The work ethic of Luka Garza is what
helps to separate him from other players.
For 12 months of the year he really wants
to be a better basketball player

great read. I agree Garza outworks everybody, but that touch around the basket and footwork, some guys could work 24/7 and not come close. Garza has some serious skills.
Its interesting. He reminds me a lot of Megan Gustafson; they both keep working at getting better.

Megan won National POY last year and Luka is in the conversation this year. :)

Always seems like players get credit when they progress and coaches get blame when they don’t.

Garza might illustrate that it’s probably 75% on the player and 25% on the coach ..... who provides the tools, encouragement and environment to develop but then much of it is up to the individual.

Garza looks like he will reach 99.7 % of his ceiling, and will beat a lot of players with 4 and 5 Star ceilings who only get to 60 or 70%.

Great article! Haven gone through this I know... One day in his far future he will be holding his dad's hand looking him in the eye for the last time thanking and remembering all the times of guidance and unconditional love.

What a wonderful bond those two have.

I wish frank Garza would be mic’d up again like he was in the tourney game vs Tenn. “let the peacock fly”. Referring to his wife as wife when speaking to her. The guy is awesome.

When the wife and I watch the Hawkeyes play, we end up laughing at Luka most of the time. It's not because he's done something funny, it's because he keeps making ridiculous shots over and over and over, and I can't do anything but laugh. He really is ridiculous.

Best overall center Iowa has had since Darling or Nellie and it's not even close. Iowa's had better teams and great players but none of them as consistent or from a position that is so critical to the game of basketball as a dominate center.
For a team that lost Cook, Moss, Dailey, Nunge, Bohannan, and Patrick McCaffery the 9 remaining players are preforming like no other team in Fran's 10 years at Iowa.
Garza is better then Fran's fab 3 of White, Uthoff, or D. Marble and may turn out to be the all time scorer in Iowa history if he stays for his senior year, and if all the underclassmen return next year, next years Iowa team could do something that hasn't been done since 1980 and even the mid 50's and it's all do because of Luka Garza.
A player that is so special that most of us can't believe what is transpiring before our very eyes....this only happens to other teams right, and now Iowa is blessed with this unorthodox player that works his a$$ off to elevate Iowa basketball to levels we only dreamed about. Well it's not a dream, it's reality and everyone needs to get behind this team and make this season and next really special. Go Hawks....
