Interesting comments on my LinkedIn this morning:
DEI is for the White Guy who is a veteran, the White Guy leader who is losing his hearing and wears an hearing aid. The White Guy amputee who served his country and wants to keep serving. The White Guy who has ADHD and is brilliant at his job, and he is different. The White Guy who learned to speak sign language because his parents are deaf and he helps translate at a hospital. The White Guy who is overweight and can't tie his boots on the manufacturing plant and needs extra time. The White Guy who speaks fluent Spanish and is Mexican. The White Guy who is a felon and still has a job. These are all DEI real stories and includes all you all.

DEI is one of the most misunderstood aspects of business today so what does DEI actually mean?
DEI is not identity based hiring.
DEI is not discrimination.
DEI is ensuring your company is able to succeed in an ever changing world.
DEI is ensuring that talented people are given a shot to showcase their skills and how they can add to the team.
Successful companies have people that look at and solve problems in different ways. If everyone has the same background, the odds are is that they will look at and solve problems in the same way.
Successful companies recognize that the world is becoming more diverse every day and adjusting to ensure that diversity is represented in their organization to better serve their customers. If everyone looks the same, you are not serving all of your customers.
At the end of the hiring process, the most qualified person will get the job. Sometimes that qualification is not "experience", but instead what the team needs to meet it's goals.
I talk about "culture add", not "culture fit".
That is what DEI helps promote. That is what DEI is about.
