Everyone in the Senate has voted except Rand Paul. He is absent and they are holding the senate floor open for his vote.

Of course a white man would do this, make it all about him and how woke he is and grateful for the black vote

Just wish Biden hadn’t made a spectacle of choosing a black woman. Her qualifications should be enough. Now she’s known as being chosen for her color and gender instead of her accomplishments.
The only people accusing him of making a spectacle are Republicans who don't like that it's a black woman. He looked at the Supreme Court and said this doesn't look very representative of America. He said there are a ton of very qualified women of color and they've never been given a chance. I'm going to do so. That isn't grandstanding, it's trying to right previous wrongs.

She was immensely qualified for the position. The only people grandstanding are the Rand Paul's and Lindsay Grahams and the like.

He should have just stfu and introduced her as the nominee without coming out beforehand saying he was selecting a black woman.

eh, I don't have an issue with it. It kept coming up that there were no black women ever considered, he was asked, he answered and said he'd rectify that problem. Again, the only people upset are the Republicans who would have hated her no matter what.

15 minutes, but they held it open longer. He just voted though.
It's probably a good thing to hold it open for him even if he' just being a rear end, because down the road when McConnell is in charge again, he will remember.

I remember several years ago, The Hammer (cannot remember the name, a republican) held open a vote way over the limit until they twisted enough arms to get the vote reversed until it passed.

It doesn't matter if it's a black woman so let's not go there. This would happen if it were a white DEM moderate male with an impeccable record of conservative voting. This is where we are now at as a country. I'm used to it.

Just wait for the red wave in November
What does that have to do with politicians who act like children? I don’t care what side of the aisle you’re on, if you’re elected to do a job, f#cking do it.

Not to pick on you, but it’s this idiotic tribalism mentality that is why Congress and the Oval Office are full of halfwit degenerates who don’t give a f#ck about anyone but themselves.

Accountability. It should be applied universally.

This may be the broadest brush I’ve ever seen.

You’re right. And that’s unfair to her. Shame on Biden for putting her in that position.

This is the best argument in favor of Biden announcing his intentions to only consider a woman of color, but that still doesn’t mean it was wise of Biden to do so.

I don't think it was wrong to acknowledge that sad truth that institutional racism against black women was a driving reason for the lack of AA woman on the court. As such, the country missed out on some real excellent scholars like Barbara Jordan. Whether that was "in the past" as most GOP members like to believe or still existent (see Trump's short list of candidates), is still a question. But acknowledging the inherent unfairness that existed before and suggesting it needs to be corrected was not wrong.

I don’t dispute that and respect the argument. The issue was how it was framed. Instead of Biden saying something to the effect of he’ll certainly not overlook any qualified female of color and that he hopes one emerges, he blatantly said he will only consider a black female. That is not fair to her.

I wish he hadn’t as well just for the unwanted distraction it caused, but at the same time. People didn’t really blink an eye when trump promised to nominate a woman either.
