We've turned a negative into a strength. Great to see Colten improve his game.

And to think that I thought that the primary "holes" on the '18 squad were the LB unit and the punting. If the punting is actually "shored up" .... and if the LBs continue to improve ... it's intriguing to contemplate what this '18 squad might be capable of doing!

Actually it reminds me of the jump Recinos made from 2016 to 2017.

You know he put in work to get to where he’s at now. Working with a sports psych. Even after his first punt of the year — not great. He’s been punting really really well.

Recinos had 2 penalties called against him in the 1st game
missed 2 FG's the 2nd game

I might be more concerned with our kicker than our punter.

From my recollection, when Iowa has had a good season under Ferentz they have almost always had a good punter. Punting is crucial for a team that values field position and not beating oneself as much as Iowa does. With how stingy the defense has looked these first few weeks, opposing offenses may struggle to score many points if they are consistently starting inside their own 25 yard line. The success of this team may depend much on the leg of Rastetter.

I do like Rastetter's rugby-style punting thus far as he is able to buy time for the coverage team to get down field and his low-lofted punts can be very difficult to field. With that said, I also worry that an opposing team may be able to develop an effective strategy in applying pressure to or blocking a rugby-style punt. This could quickly turn a strength into a weakness.

Let's remember though. The only stat that really matters in Net Punting. You can kick it 60 yards per punt, but if it out kicks the coverage and allows a huge return....then it's not worth anything.

With that in mind, Rastetter has only allowed 10 yards on one lone punt return so far this year.

Also impressive, that Georgia St punter has also only allowed 10 yards in punt returns.
