Reaction to Suggestive Frat Sign

The Frat has been suspended from Old Dominion University in VA. What say you HROT? React!

Freshman daughter drop-off is as far as it should've gone.

The rest is over the top.

Curious to why this sign isn't lighting fires under anyone on this thread? Particularly the ones who were complaining about the boys signs. This sign is women seeking to lure younger men into having unprotected sex with them, which drastically increases their chances to get these women pregnant or to get an STD.
I don't see a difference.
I think the sign wasn't the smartest thing to do, but it's no different than the reality of how the minds of college kids work.

In this day and age you have to be smart enough to know you're going to get some mom who is going to freak out over that type of thing so you need to be smarter then that.

That said it's really sad you can't joke around with out people freaking out in this day and age. It's a damn joke people.

Also would of loved to partied with the girls in the 2nd picture, you know they know have to have fun. If you know what I mean.. ;)

Colleges and universities are no longer free speech zones in this country. You first amendment rights are forfeit the instant you set foot on campus.
We are going to keep needing to post this reminder over and over and over until it finally sticks:

Although Old Dominion is a public university. Really their "free speech rights" need to be considered in connection with the school's code of conduct. Certainly a public university can violate the first amendment by punishing protected speech, the question, as usual, is whether the speech is protected.

I found it completely harmless and funny. It's what Frats do. However, the fact that the signs were up on THE DAY that most parents would be on campus was bad judgement. If they hung their signs a week later this is a non story.

Then the signs wouldn't make much sense a week later.

Still......., nothing to do about this but laugh.

My first thought is that maybe they made cookies and lemonade for arriving mothers and daughters. This way they can put the mother at ease about dropping off their daughter, and introduce them to campus life and its many opportunities for growth. Sure, the university has official events like this, but it's more comforting coming from other dedicated students who take full advantage of the educational opportunity.
No, I think these frat-boys were thinking of giving the mothers and daughters something with more of a creamy filling than cookies.

It's not funny. It's stupid and immature. If that's "what frats do" then I guess stupid and immature is an apt description.

Thank you for contributing to pussification of America. They aren't raping women. They aren't breaking laws. They made a freaking sign. Get over yourself.

Why does everyone want to pretend that sex doesn't exist?

Nobody is pretending that sex doesn't exist. The real issue is that most people's thought process probably goes directly to rape which is a reality on college campuses. How often does it occur? I'm not sure. But people are sensitive and this probably sent parents who were already on edge over the line.

Does anyone know if any data shows the age of those that complained? I assume most college aged students laughed about it, but parents probably found it offensive. My kids are still young so I laughed about the signs, but if I was just dropping my daughter off at college, I'd probably worry a little bit about it.

I don't get the relationship between couches not pulling out "so" boys are hoped to do so.

Wouldn't the girls hope for boy pullout regardless of whether the couches pulled out?

So, are you a professional asshole or just a high level amateur?
It's this kind of attitude that leads to the disrespect of women. If you can't see this then I stand by my claim that you're an asshole. Hopefully, you haven't nor plan to procreate. Gawd knows the world doesn't need more assholes like you.

Nice try but college campuses generally are only taking one side. You can come back and spin that any way you like but leftists are the least tolerant group in our country right now

This is just like youth sports, the target audience (college kids in this case) think it is funny and no big deal, but the old people/parents freak out.

I wasn't in a frat (no way, no need) but i was in college, this isn't a big deal to anyone attending the college (except the extremely political....who isn't their target audience anyways), it really is much to do of nothing.

Basically, you are an old man yelling at cloud at this point (at least in my eyes and those of 18 - 22 year olds).

The article seemed to indicate that plenty of freshman girls where upset by the signs as well.

You are right it's not about pretending sex doesn't exist, it's about respect and behaving with some decency.

And frats don't really have a good rep right now when it comes to respecting women. Like I don't buy into the whole "rape culture" thing at all and the amount of rape that happens on college campuses is WAY WAY overstated. But I will say when I was in college, the handful of rapes that where reported by students when I was there, every single one happened in a frat house by a fraternity member who lived in the house. Not a single reported rape when I was there happened anywhere but a frat house or allegedly by anyone other then fraternity members living in that house. Considering that a very small percentage of students at our school lived in a frat house I don't find it likely to be a coincidence at all.

Let me just put out there that I do have my bias. I think social fraternities and sororities are stupid excuses to get plastered and they need to go away. Every social fraternity and sorority that I've looked up they said their mission was to make their members into better scholars, gentlemen/ladies, etc etc. . . But I never found out what they ever did to accomplish this objective other then 1 single charity fundraising event every year per frat/sorority, at least one of which seemed to be an excuse to be chased around campus by women nominally trying to steal their hats. Meanwhile every weekend was a drinking party involving terrible music and dry humping that they called "dancing".

Professional fraternities and service fraternities are ok and they actually have a point. Wasn't a member of either one of these either but I can at least see a point for them to exist. But in my experience none of those fraternities had houses.

1. It's neat that the Ted Cruz moniker is being used again.
2. It sucks that I'll be sitting across the desk from one of those dudes dependent on them to get a loan some day.
3. The banners are immature and deserve to be called out. It isn't jackbooted thugs taking away the 1st Amendment to point out dudes being stupid. Hopefully their moms are speaking to them today about their stupidity and putting a temporary lock on their debit card.

Absolutely agree, so long as we define "tolerant" as "accepting of offensive/asinine statements."

What exactly is offensive/asinine about the banners at ODU? There is no mention of sex/rape/racism/guns/etc. A bunch of frat guys want to get rowdy and want there to be girls there. This is basically the definition of college

Because freshmen men are not going to walk into a sorority and have to worry about being raped.

Is that how it happens? Are all frat houses filled with rapists? You must read Rolling Stone?

The only issue I have is that the sign on the right and the sign on the left are trying too hard and really aren't that funny.

I didn't say that. Are you actually thinking the female is just as safe walking by herself into a frat party as a guy is walking into a sorority? And I am NOT against fraternities. It's a double standard, I admit it. I wouldn't be worried about my son going into a sorority by himself, or into an apartment full of females. I'd feel a tad different if the roles were reversed and it was my daughter going into that fraternity. Far more women are raped by drunk college students than the other way around.

Is that the purpose of fraternities? To be stupid and obtuse? Im was never a "fraternity boy" so I didn't know that. I never frat a desire to join a frat, as I had 3 brothers in real life. And I had a real "mom."

Yes the expression "it's what Frats do" is completely synonymous with "it's the purpose of Frats". Who is the obtuse one?
