Recruit Max Murin in town for a visit

Kids a stud. This would be another great get. Akron is going to be a great tournament next weekend. He will be in the same bracket as Thompsen.

Will young guns please come by and tell us where this kid projects to be weight wise in a couple of years?

It all depends. You might have a problem with weight loss vs fat loss or weight gain vs fat gain. This could have problems with your height which means you would have to take height excercises to make you taller or smaller. Always remember that time of day is important. You are taller in the morning than the evening as your spine loses space with being upright all day and then the discs expand while you rest which can cause weight gain or loss.. Hydration is a key also. The more fluids you intake the more fluids in your discs. You could go to bed being 5'8" and weighing 145lbs and wake up being 5'4" and weighing 130lbs.. Riveting.o_O

Sure would like to see that match now between Murin and Mejia. I think that match posted was from 2-years ago. After watching Max wrestle Courtney to a close one point loss and knowing that Murin also beat Courtney with both matches happening this past year during the regular season and watching the match between Courtney and Mejia also this year, I see real progress from Murin. I think it would be a much closer go than the one from two years ago.

Back in the day when I drank too much, I spent the night with a few women that did this - only in reverse.

So would I and at tournament that has 2 day weigh ins and not a five pound allowance sure makes a big difference getting to wrestle 3 days after you weigh in! And something else to add Justin will wrestle anyone who's in font of him he won't go down to a lower weight class to duck anyone he took a freestyle match with Gomez and hasn't had a freestyle match since he was 6yr

Can't wait to get Mejia, Lee, Renteria, Troy, Young, Happel, Marinelli and hopefully Berge and Warner in the room. Murin would be a good addition also and Teasdale will be an outstanding kid when he gets here. The future is bright.

Now if our upper weights coming in looked that solid. We could probably beat some countries like back in the day.
Huge Vader AKA Stoll fan.

Here's one against an awesome California wrestler that you may recognize:

Mejia is a beast. I love the style he wrestles, he just grinds, wears dudes down and scores. A lot of smaller guys in California tend to wrestle a more outside game and try to be quicker than their opponents. Mejia is in your face the whole time and doesn't let up the whole match. Murin is a tough kid and Justin straight put it on him. Obviously Murin has gotten better in the last few years at Young Guns, but so has Justin. I'm stating the obvious, but the Hawks are getting a supremely talented athlete in Mejia.

Go Hawks!!!!

I just wish he was coming to Penn State. You guys are getting some great wrestlers. There will be some nice Penn State-Iowa battles ahead.

You are absolutely right wasdt, Justin is that quick. Jaysdad is obviously better equipped to speak on this than me. But it seems to me that it's in Justin's DNA. He's more comfortable being a grinder, controlling the head and shooting from ties. He's also got a solid top game, where he looks to put a ton of pressure on guys.

Yes u are absolutely right here is a tough SOB and grinds it out and has great top game be on the look out u just might see him in near future at some freestyle events also did anyone realize he's only 16 And if I not mistaken could have competed in cadet age group

It depends on when his birthday was. I believe Teasdale is an "older" 16 year-old and had to compete in Juniors. Justin's style seems to lend itself to an easy transition to freestyle. He doesn't get himself into a ton of crazy scrambles, where he's rolling around on his back. He looks to control the center of the mat. I'm sure he could develop a gut wrench series very quickly with his top pressure game. He's a very entertaining kid to watch and the more mat time he gets, the better for Hawk fans!

Don't hold back! Are we going to see him at junior duals or Fargo?

No doubt it would be close...Max is a good wrestler and two years is a long time but I do believe both have progressed in that time period. But it's not going to happen as Max has said he is going to wrestle 138 this year. But here's what I would like to see. Courtney or Max travel out to Cali and wrestle Justin in his backyard as he has had to do with each of these competitions. That's three time zones and a lot of $$$. Doc B is an excellent tourney...let's make it happen ;)

It sure seems Iowa is having a revival in recruiting. Spencer Lee was crucial and now it's filling in. Good for wrestling.

This its more of a sea change in tactics and core beliefs. PSU loading up has opened some eyes and the "out develop" with a bunch of good guys and one or two studs thought is replaced with lets get the best we can...even out of state.

Not sure if this was posted yet but Max Murin is listed as the #81 ranked Junior (class of 2017). He is projected as a college 141 lber. By comparison here is the rankings and projected weights of the other 2017 Iowa recruits as well as hopefuls:

#1 Spencer Lee 125
#23 Justin Mejia 125/133
#33 Jason Renteria 133
#56 Luke Troy 165

#10 Brady Berge 165
#11 Jacob Warner 184

I imagine a lot of these weights will change. I could easily see Berge growing into a 174lber as well as other guys possibly going up and down.

These are our class of 2016 recruits coming in

#3 Alex Marinelli 165
#21 Kaleb Young 165/174
#34 Carter Happel 149
#100 Jack Wagner 125
NR Brock Rathbun 133
NR Matt Malcolm 157/165
NR Tristan Johnson 165
NR Cade Brownlee 174/184

Not a bad haul. Go HAWKS !!!!

thanks for that socal, 2 things occurred to me. kaleb young and Justin mejia, I have a hard time believing there are 20 better kids coming out this year than young, his improvement from the beginning of his jr. year when he committed to the he of his sr. was impressive, he went from boy to man. definitely not 22 better guys than mejia this year I can not see a weakness in his game and keeps getting better as he matures, no fear and no remorse. 14 guys listed above I would say half of them have national title potential.the pressure was on tom to produce with projects, well now the pressure is really on to produce, haven't been this hopeful for a while.

Kaleb is the guy nobody sees coming and everybody underestimates.
Brings up a good question Chief that probably deserves its own thread. There has been a lot of talk for quite awhile about the likelihood of Brady Berge coming to Iowa. Who has a better college career Kaleb Young or Brady Berge? They likely both will end up needing to be 174lber to fit into the Iowa lineup as the Bull will likely hold down 165 for awhile. Just thinking about the scraps that would go down in the room between Young Berge and Marinelli get me pumped!
