Iowas special team play was outstanding in regards to covering kickoffs and punts, but punting hurt us this season. Does not look like we will get a punter this recruiting class, so maybe our current punters will improve.

KF is stubborn. Sometimes to a fault.

The staff sees these guys every day, while the fans just see the 30 yard punts on Saturdays. It's frustrating, but for some reason, who the hell knows?

Iowa took a look at couple walk-on candidates that ended up getting scholarships elsewhere. They were also looking at Columbia grad transfer Parker Thome, but he announced for Vanderbilt today. Probably will keep looking on that front I would imagine.

A healthy Gersonde would help. He dealt with an injury (back?) most of last season.

This is a perfect "funny guy" thread. Gersonde will be the guy if healthy and he will do just fine.

Even Columbia has a better punter than Iowa does. That's what I take from this. o_O

Wow, Blair, I had no idea that Columbia was "Punter U." But that's insane.... Sounds like KF had better start trying to poach Columbia a lot sooner than waiting for grad transfers.

I so badly wanted a punter in this class. Oh well, it’s entertaining when we rugby style them right up our gunner’s a$$. My son and I just shrug shoulders and laugh. What else can you do....

Blair has said Gersonde was hurt. The Hawks would not have wasted a scholly on a guy who couldn't punt. I've got to assume if healthy he will be fine. A big kid.

That is accuracy my friend. Bet he was aiming! Thought he hit the long snapper in the back on one if that is the one you are referring to.

Some around here aren't going to accept that. The coaches are confident Gersonde is healthy and will do a good job. That's what I believe...we'll see.

Well the punt game can hardly get worse, can it?

Colton actually managed a couple solid ones in the second half of the bowl game...

We should just send Stanley out there, odds are they won’t have a punt returner if he lines up. His pooch punts with no returns would be more effective even from our own 20. I remember our punter didn’t catch the hike at Nebbie and cost us early in the game. Then later on hit our gunner in the back on a punt and then repeated the performance at bowl game.

At Columbia we punt a lot. Cause we suck. Not like oh we're not good, but like lose every game for five straight years, suck

Well, so does Iowa. My guess is that over the last 10 years, no P5 team has
more punts than we do. Anyone want to check?

Not even close. For example, Rastettler had 55 last year. Other guys were in the 80s.

We're just don't have enough possession changes to punt a lot (i.e. we run and control the clock)

We try to control the clock but we don't. We are usually on the wrong end of T.O.P. Too many 3 and outs. Thus a lot of punts.

Rast was not our only punter. Go check out not just last year, but the previous
9 years. That will put the situation in perspective.

Do you have a reading comprehension problem? I invited anyone to refute my assertion about the last 10 years (long enough for a solid trend). One
year says nothing about a trend. If you want to accept the challenge, I'll give you a headstart: we were in the top 5 in more than one of those years.

I don't have have a reading comprehension problem; you made the assertion show us the facts to back it up or shut up. I gave you the link to work from - Iowa was above average on number of punts for about half of the last 10 years. The chances that they would be the worst of P5 schools over a 10 year span is about .1%.

Well, so does Iowa. My guess is that over the last 10 years, no P5 team has
more punts than we do. Anyone want to check?
Sorry, but no. Your making that assumption, (and you know what happens when you assume), because your not happy with the offense. Iowa does not punt more then most teams. In fact KF has started going for first down a lot the last couple of years on fourth and short, and had a pretty high success rate as well.
