Why can't we seem to recruit the 6'9" jumping and scoring big man like West Virginia has in Devin Williams. When was the last one we had?

They surround pemsl like a pack of wolves. He is a very good passer and when he gets to iowa teams won't be able to triple team him like they do in hs. I think he'll be alright. He's definitely not a high flyer though.
Slow, non-jumper, poor shooter, poor defender... but a great passer

Pemsl reminds me of a poor man's Niang. He had some pretty good ball handling skills on the break. Didn't get to see most of the game so I can't speak to the rest of that.

I just watched the game and Pemsl was being double and triple teamed the entire game.

Will he be an all conference player next year? No, but given his overall skill set and size he can contribute next year and has potential to become an excellent B1G player.

Pemsl's team blows it at the end, looks like more of the same for next year.

They were also playing without one of their better players. He was hurt in the first round game.

I watched CP play at West earlier this year. I noticed he struggled finishing around the rim and didn't have anyone to bang down low against. (Although Parks blocked him once) However, he was the games 2nd leading scorer behind McCaffery. He had an alright mid range jumper and hit at least 1 three.

I'm not sure how he will pan out but it's too early to give up on the kid. I think some people just want to make everything negative because of what is happening right now with the Hawks. I feel like we are incapable of being an objective fan base. (Myself included at times)

I have never seen Pemsl play, With that said, I sure wouldn't judge his overall talent on just watching him this year, It took Jok quite awhile to recover from his knee injury and I wouldn't be surprised if it takes awhile for Pemsl to fully recover as well.

All year Pemsl was double/triple teamed (from what I saw). The guards could rarely get it to him inside, so his only way pf scoring was off rebounds or driving. There were numerous times where he took the ball the length of the court, did a spin move to get into the paint, and made a layup/dunk.

This is the way I saw the game tonight, they couldn't even get him the ball most of the game. He once took a rebound coast to coast with some nice dribbling and finger rolled it in and one.

Xavier basically deployed the same defense on both Pemsl and Kriener. They doubled them, if they got the ball they sent both Burger and Mims at them to strip the ball or force the ball out of their hands. Wahlert has better all around talent around Pemsl. Kriener has one nice player and the rest basically looked like JV players. Pemsl had a couple nice dunks that I saw and I was impressed with his overall game. Best dunk I saw was Kriener's dunk over 6'7" Stolken from Xavier. That was a nice in traffic dunk. Hard to make to much out of a players potential when they receive that much defensive attention.

Lane is great athlete with ability to finish at the rim. Great defender, most schools probably waiting to see how his shot develops. Definite P5 potential. Not sure on Lohaus. Was probably recruited to defend forwards on the perimter. Offensive game still developing.

Main thing to remember is your talking about young men who are all still developing. All of them have been put thru the rigors of countless premier camps and AAU seasons. This is where they were selected amongst their peers. The coaches that selected them have a idea on how they see them developing over the next 4 or 5 years and the contributions they will make to their team. Good Luck to all of them.

I disagree, I think Pemsl is a good athlete and is much stronger than anyone we have recruited for along time. Reminds me of a young Ed Horton.
Hadn't thought of Eddie, I think that is an excellent comparison from what I've seen. Both big back-ends, which is good for rebounding and position. Eddie had soft hands and was deadly within 10 feet. I think Pemsl might be a better jumper, but he is carrying a lot of bad weight right now, which slows him down. I really like his offensive game, though.

Iowa is not in the running for any one-and-done guys, nor do I expect them to be anytime soon. And, that's ok with me. If we expect the freshman that Iowa gets to immediately come in and be a force in the B1G, we are going to be disappointed.

Fran needs to get the stagger back (yes, I meant stagger, not swagger). We need a team that always has 3 seniors, 3 juniors, etc. We need our freshman to have time to learn, gain weight and acclimate to school. Of course, if they are ready, play 'em.

A kid like Pemsl ... who knows how he will develop in the next 18 mos before he begins his second season at Iowa?

p.s. love the Ed Horton comparison!

I feel pretty confident that Pemsl will prove some of you wrong. I think Frans system is right up his alley. Hes very good at running the floor and finishing around the rim but is a fantastic passer. The high school game kind of bogged him down and he will flourish in the more wide open college game..

Aaron White was the correct answer. Also, Tyler Cook from day 1. He might have a learning curve with Fran's trap, but we're going to love watching him burn other Big Ten bigs in the half-court O. Next year may be a step back with the youth, but we're in good shape.

I think getting a video board over center court will help a little with recruiting. Iowa is the only B1G school without one.

I think we need to dump Carver and gangster-style eminent domain some space in between the river and Gilbert St. An 8-story parking ramp and a 17k-capacity arena named after the Carvers with the floor named after Chris Street (or anyone who isn't Mediacom). Kinnick is fine (as a former carney, an Iowa football game is one of the best events in the state), but Carver needs to actually be on campus. Not grad school campus. Traffic sucks for everyone on gameday in IC (a city built before the automobile was invented), but the atmosphere of Carver would be improved 100fold if the arena was closer to the action.

If we didn't collapse, we might've had a shot at J. Tilmon in '17.

With due respect, Jeremiah Tilmon( #16 Rivals Nat'l and headed up the charts) is most likely headed to a national blue blood if he can get academically eligible. He's a likely one and done. Kansas, Kentucky or UNC. Iowa needs to be focused on a guy who is talented but developing big man like Malik Williams (#36 Rivals Nat'L) who needs to mature and grow a bit stronger/muscular. Wagner is more a center type with limited range on shot like Basabe but with more athleticism. Kreiner is most likely a center that could develop a Frank Kaminsky outside game in time. Cook is a tweener who is more likely to becpme a Reggie Evans PF if he continues to develop.

Malik Williams is a true PF who looks like he has a very good perimeter shot and the ability to take in to the hole at times. Malik has early and significant PT at Iowa marked on himself.

Iowa really needs a high caliber PG who can score on the dribble drive and well as make passes and run offense and play challenging defense. I keep bringing up Jordan Goodwin's name. Best BB player in IL HS this year and just a junior. Iowa needs to shed Ellingson for a scholarship and go hard for Goodwin. Goodwin could stifle Bohannon's game very quickly. Goodwin has the tools to be a top 40 kid after this summer if he works at becoming a PG. Currently, a Rivals #87 as a SG. Goodwin plays in the IL HS playoffs next weekend in 3A and is likely a second time 1st team all-stater as a junior.
