Recruiting question?

Probably doesn't affect it much as they're different sports. However, it might help somewhat psychologically if a kid if leaning that way anyway because everyone likes to play for a school that's a winner. Now if one sport dominates the other, say football, a basketball recruit might be discouraged, feeling that his sport doesn't matter at that school. But don't see that at Iowa,

Good answer Canada. Getting Iowa noticed by anyone can never hurt. Iowa football being ranked #10 gets basketball a little publicity. A good way to look at it is think of the ads the schools include in the broadcasts bragging about the school itself, luring students. "Now that you've seen our football team........did you know you could be a dentist! Or how about playing around with driving simulators?" It all ties in a little bit.

The Athletic Dorm...now there's real recruiting. :)

I'd say it does help some particularly on recruiting visits. I.e. Tyler Cook had his visit the best possible weekend for the Pitt game and he commits shortly thereafter. If Iowa had lost to Iowa State and we didn't even fill the stadium and say lost to Pitt, there isn't nearly the excitement or the environment. I'd have to say it helps some.

I think it helps. Probably not to a great degree but certainly to some degree. Probably means more to some than it does to others.

Agree it's psychological, wanting to play at a winning school and seeing the atmosphere of fans. I wonder if meeting the coaches of different sports helps, especially if they know them by name. I would say the main influences are the coaching staff of your sport, the academic aspect and of course if the sports program is successful.

As stated I doubt it's critical, But it sure can't hurt to have a recruit visit for the weekend and get to enjoy the energy and excitement that is associated with the fan base being fired up for a game while he/she is visiting. Positive energy sends out a good vibe, So it sure can't hurt.

Success in football or basketball means more money to the athletic department, hence financial boost for upgrades, recruiting, etc. Along with what has been said above, I say yes.

I think it helps the "cool" factor (I may be showing my age with that term). When the football team is in the top 10 and getting national attention, it boosts Iowa's credibility with recruits and I think it cuts across sports.

I would say it helps more than a person thinks. I think the big Pit win and great atmosphere helped sway Cook. Sounded like he was probably coming anyway but that sealed it. Jmho
