If we want to compete, our ONLY option is to add $10 to each ticket to go towards NIL.

That would raise about $3million to $4million per year NIL. Tennessee just started that for their 100,000 seat stadium.

Our recruiting is very pedestrian based on poor NIL. Otherwise, we’ll remain mired in mediocrity.
Interesting thought but I thought the schools themselves were separate from NIL. That NIL comes from external sources from the Univ and Athletic dept. But now the schools can pay players so the money you mention could be used to help pay players.

I hope someone who knows about this ever changing payments money scheme can tell us if raising money thru ticket sales can go to NIL or not vs the school just paying players out of an Athl Dept fund

Could there be a caveat that only a small percentage of funds go to Pottery Barn recruits for basketball? Oh wait, no one goes to Carver anymore, so never mind.

With the amount of money the university gets from ticket and merch sales, they need to find a way to get that into the NIL. They should donate it to some random person, then have them put that into the Swarm. Don't care if that's against the rules, everyone else cheats too.

Is that legal?
Sure, you can charge whatever you want for a ticket but I wouldn’t think they could put more towards NIL than the agreed upon $22 million or whatever figure that was.

I believe that the original poster is talking about something different than NIL. NIL is name-image-likeness. The other issue is the House settlement where athletes will be paid and it'll come from the university. I believe that it is tied to the 105 limit.

And I agree with the original poster that it's a good idea.

Don’t you think this was true before NIL, though? I mean it’s not like Fran putting out a swim team on the basketball court just started in the era of NIL.
Basketball recruiting has by and large been dog shit over the years. Now, only money talks.

I don’t think that would be allowed.

Should be $40 a seat add on for the season. Yes I would pay it with mine. I already do basically with Swarm membership.

We sell roughly 500,000 tickets a year. Divert $100 per ticket to the players and you have 50 million. That should get us in the playoffs.

I've been a long time ticket holder. Personally, I'll balk at paying more. The people wo already have the money are very good at getting those who don't to give then even more. Sorry, hope that isn't too political.

I am with you. The university is making a crap ton off of these TV deals. Where does ALL that money go?

They are already doing nothing in school to hold any type of standard. As and Bs given out like candy. Got to keep everyone enrolled for financial purposes.

I like this idea but let’s go a step further Why not lower cost of a ticket by $30 (or more) and charge a $30 service charge that goes to NIL. This is a simple way for the Athletic dept to subsidize Swarm. Ticket revenue is important but the athletic dept is running a surplus because of TV $.

That isnt political or too political as there are always a lot of fundraising going on for this and that and them. The NGOs are always asking for money.

Tennessee is already doing it.
It's not NIL. It's a court settlement from the current and former players sueing the NCAA where the university must profit share around $20M starting in 2025. Maybe Tennessee doesn’t think they can get enough from their TV revenue to fully fund the $20M or they want every dime they can get from their fans.

It still doesn't help to compete against a franchise like Oregon that's looking to raise $35M from various NIL collectives over the $20M.
