I've posted this several times in the Ukraine thread. Russia has a lot of problems on their borders. Putin has troops in Belarus because Lukashenko is weakened. He has troops in Georgia and Moldova. He deployed them to Kazakhstan last year when that government went wobbly. Putin is stretched very thin. Good time for China to nibble away at his empire, or for Japan to take the Kuril's back.
I recall the last time Georgia was in a dust up with Russia. Georgia got smacked pretty hard.
