The GOP continuously is searching for those "hot button" issues that will draw some appeal to their message. Unfortunately for them, the Party has too much in-fighting going on to deliver a clear vision. You have extremists like Paul and Santorum, moderates like Bush and Trump, religious nuts like Huckabee, and rinos like Christie. How the hell do you unite a Party when no one can lead?
There's a reason Trump/Carson/Carly are popular right now. They are not your typical politicians and Americans are sick of partisan politics and gridlock in D.C. Can they unite by next summer? I doubt it because the far right does not want compromise and the far right controlled the primary season last go round and they very well could this time again. You cater to special interests to get the nomination and alienate the general populace in the process. That's another recipe for losing the WH yet again.
When they realize their mistakes from the past, they may have a chance. Until then... another Dem will occupy the oval office.
Please show me the data to back this statement up. It's not the centrists/moderates who are unhappy with the typical polticians. Sanders isn't getting support because the far left want him compromising with Republicans, it's that they DON'T want him compromising with Republicans. They think Obama has been too nice, too compromising. Trump/Fiorina/Carson aren't getting support from the GOP centrists. Hell, those people love Kasich, Bush, or Christies and they are mystified and furious with the success of the "outsiders".
It's conservatives who are pissed off at the Boehner's and McConnell's for breaking promises and caving into the Dems, which is precisely why the outsiders are so popular. Listen to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, and they are ALL blasting GOP leadership and are happy with the popularity the "outsiders" are having. You have it totally backwards. People aren't tired of partisan politics, they want more of it from their side. Conservatives LOVE gridlock, and since it's conservative backing the top 4 candidates (Trump, Carly, Carson, Cruz), your premise couldn't be more flawed.
How in the world can you say "the far right controlled the primary season last go round"? This is absent any basis in reality. If that was the case then Romney would not have won the nomination. The right couldn't stand Romney which is why different people took the lead as the anti-Romney choice. The dream moderate/centrist, Romney, won the nomination and got his butt kicked by a President presiding over the worst post WWII economic recovery and an incredibly unpopular healthcare bill. He was the Wall Street choice, the choice of the big bankers, the choice of the Bilderbergs, and the dream candidate of the moderates.
I know it's popular to spin tales, like the far right controls the GOP, but let's try to get back to reality. If the far right controlled the party then it would be bye, bye, Mitt, McCain, Dole, etc when it came to the party's nomination. The beauty of this campaign season is the GOP establishment is FINALLY getting their teeth knocked in thanks to Trump. It's a glorious sight.
If the last 2 elections have proved anything is it really doesn't matter if Hillary is president, if your choice is Jeb. Look at what Boehner and McConnell have done with control. Given more authority to Obama. Either you have a real choice between ideology, or it really doesn't matter who's president since there will essentially be a dime's worth of difference between the GOP or Dem candidate.
Let's finally give the country a real choice between the parties. Lets have Sanders vs Cruz (or Carly). The rest is just a smoke and mirrors game that is solely about controlling power, and nothing about ideas or ideology.
