I'm becoming increasingly skeptical. And I'm not accusing Gomez of lying, I just don't know how you could accurately hear that in that environment after the match. It would be easy to mistake that word. Now, knowing some other incidents that have taken place when rural Iowans didn't know they'd get caught saying what they said (let's face it, mainly in N/NW Iowa), it wouldn't totally surprise me either to have an embarrassment like that in our midst.
Yeah, I am sure 10 minute investigation is all it would take.
I’m not sure why so many folks doubt it could have happened. And I don’t see it as a reflection on the entire Hawkeye nation, either, if true. Just some moran doing their thing.

Wouldn’t surprise me either way & won’t lose sleep over it either way. He may have misheard or it may have happened but Gomez was egging on the Iowa fan base, think this one cuts both ways…no since getting worked over a single person’s venting rage.
I'm not interested in was it right or wrong. If it happened, it is definately wrong. I am just wondering what the verdict is? Why would this take so long - just ask the security people there. U of I is blotching this apparently.

Why does anyone think it would be easy to determine this? He didn't see the person who said it. Unless people around the person reported it I think it would be very difficult to determine. What we have to go off is that he heard it "behind him". So we've narrowed it down to what, 7k people? I don't think we ever have a resolution to this unless the person turns themselves in. And, call me cynical, but, if you are dumb enough to say that you certainly don't posses the fortitude to take responsibility for your actions. We will probably see something added to the program about racial insensitivity or possibly an announcement. Maybe the best thing that could come from this is that Hawkeye Fans stand up to this kind of low life in the future.
There may be no evidence it happened. And I liked the way Tommy said they are vigilant. It doesn’t mean there’s anything to see here.
I just watched the video again. There were 2 escorts with Gomez - one in the front and one in the back. All the U of I had to do was ask them if they heard a racial slur - end of story. Strange that Gomez's parents happen to be very close to hear it also, yet, escorts didn't? What are the odds? No one else did either. If I was there and some dimwit did it, I would rat him/her out.

OK, that would be the result of an investigation and an opportunity for the U of I to make a powerful point that they will never tolerate such actions.
Tommy made the point in a recent vid. It doesn’t matter to me if they catch anyone. Everybody just needs to be on basically the same page.
Why do you care so much about if it happened or not?
How do you know they were right next to him when he heard it? Do you think they were as focused on what people were shouting from the stands or getting him out of there safely?
I would think you could find a better source to ask for this info at the University of Iowa than here at the cesspool if you truly are interested in factual information rather than hearsay.
I agree. If he's lying, that's completely on him and he has to live with it. If you want to validate all the people that think Carver is full of mouth breathing racists, then definitely continue to focus on the truth aspect.
REALLY? I don't know if that is what you really intended to say or not. Are there people that attend events in Carver that are racists? Yes. I would think that it is a small percentage as in under 5%. You have a totally different opinion on that number obviously. You must not be a Hawk fan if you are that convinced that the majority of Hawk fans are racists. I'm sure the percentages are fairly close throughout all colleges and universities in America. Hawk fans no better nor any worse.

I don't know if that was really said that day...or not. But something occurred to me later on that is still curious to me. Where was Gomez' mother sitting? Most opponents fans/family are near their own bench, right?
I watched as Gomez left his bench area and headed towards the locker room. I lost sight of him as he was pretty much behind the Hawkeye bench area on the way to the tunnel. Someone later reported ere on HROT that the comment was made near, or in, the tunnel area. I know I did not see any type of reaction from Gomez that would indicate that something offensive was said to him. I strongly suspect that if he heard such a thing, he would have at least stopped and stared, etc. But he did not.

However, if that area was truly where the comment was made...then how could his mother have heard it? I don't know for sure, but I suspect she was back in the area near the Badger bench and there is NO WAY anyone could hear anything like that from that distance.

We were right next to the tunnel and didn’t hear anything like that at all. We’ve even heard the audio available from there and there’s nothing remotely close to that word or ANY racist remarks heard.
Deflection = Actual facts via news stories supporting what I was talking about in the form of multiple incidents of embarrassing racial incidents in that part of Iowa. Not ONCE was political affiliation mentioned in me or my sources. The fact that the truth makes you uncomfortable politically is a sad indictment of you, not me.

Nice slam on the residents of Iowa and in particular NW Iowa. NEWS FLASH - racism exists all over the country and all over the world among all people with all skin pigmentation, all income brackets, and all political alignments. I could take any part of the country and post newspaper articles demonstrating existing racism except racism against honkies, crackers, and whites (ies) as that is rarely reported. Don't suggest Iowa is a racist haven - it is not.

Huh? You must be joking, or not from the area. NW Iowa is more aligned with SD or MN than NB except down in Sioux City. And SD is still a bigger influence there, imo. Lol
NW Iowa is no more racist than any other place in Iowa, but they are isolated and have some fanatically religious pockets.
I live in Eastern Iowa and there is a lot of trash people here aswell. You could be one of them!

It’s kinda funny…. When growing up, in NW Iowa, I knew very few people in the penal system. However, a friend from Sheldon taught school in Sabula for awhile and said it was another world entirely.
This is an extremely lazy response and it's clear you didn't comprehend anything I wrote. 6 seconds of research would make it abundantly clear that I am an Iowa fan and have been forever.
I completely agree that it's undoubtedly a small percentage of fans that are racists, and that it's likely a very similar percentage across all fan bases. But you know that's not how opposing fans view Iowa, ESPECIALLY opposing wrestling fans.
If you can't see how arguing about the validity of his claim is shaping peoples perspective on Iowa or validating their (wrong) view on Iowa, then I cannot help you. What do you hope comes from determining the truth? You embarrass a 22 year old kid? I can tell you that the people that think our fans are all racist don't care if it's true or not. You should follow the lead of our head coach and focus on the fact that it's unacceptable and doesn't represent our community.
