Not sure we played that great of defense. Mary missed at least 10 wide open 3's. We were lucky they were ice cold on their open looks. I know the zone is meant to make teams take 3's but would like to see us close out a little better or the perimeter.

I talked to a buddy of mine after that game and we could not believe how many 3's they missed. I thought it was more amazing that they just kept shooting them even though they weren't hitting them.

Maryland took a lot of bombs during that game. It may be an open shot but I think most coaches are fine with allowing 25-27 footers.

There were open shots, but I also so spurts of much better defensive rotations that created some late shot clock situations for Maryland. The defense was clearly off balance in some of these, but they communicated well enough to have SOMEONE flying out at a shooter, even if it was Cook, Wagner, or Pemsl closing out hard.

The 3 Point Shot in CBB has made a lot of defenses look good and a lot look bad...with proper ball movement & the guard oriented game it is...I'm not sure there is a defense against the 3 Point Shot.

Good win, but as fans...maintain perspective. Wisconsin? Iowa is going to have to play it's absolute best game of the year to win. Because just when we think Iowa has things figured out, they come out and lay an egg.

Iowa hit a much higher percentage of their deep balls than is reasonable to expect. And mary, well they were definitely off.
It was a game to enjoy. They're obviously not all like that.

No, not all games will be like that but if TC continues to play like he has we have a damn good chance. He's a great matchup with Happ.

As someone who lives in the DC area and has seen a lot of U Maryland games, I agree with much of what's been written here. The Terps missed a lot of open shots, but they were bad in many phases -- transition, poor defensive rebounding especially.

From my seat in the stands, there was some serious outrage coming from the Maryland fan base. It's like they couldn't believe what the Hawks were doing to them, especially Bohannon. About midway through the 4th, boos were cascading down from all sides of the arena, Turgeon was using his sportcoat as a dust mop, and Terps fans were leaving early. It was glorious.

Actually I don't think Wisky is all that scary..they have holes. But yes always tough to win at their place. Course as bad as Happ & Hayes shot free throws against MSU..they will probably shoot lights out against us. Happ is a load underneath..he also walks half the time which never gets called.

I'm not really sure what has things figured out is..there is no reason to think Iowa will win because of their play at Maryland..there also no reason to think we cant play well and win. I wouldn't think JBo will go 8 for 10 in back-back games...but I don't think he needs to in order for us to win.

No such thing as laying an egg at a ranked teams court. I'm sure we will have Wisconsin's attention.

I'm sure the Mary fans (students) probably don't think much of our cow-poke team...or state for that matter....how and the world could that fall back recruit hit 8 of 10?...and Melo the Man couldn't hit the broad side of the barn. Its a miracle I tell ya....a miracle.

Yes, I'm sure it was hard for Terps fans to fathom. Under former coach Gary Williams, Maryland didn't always get the top recruits, but under the new regime, the roster seems to be getting constantly reloaded with "four star" recruits. But the sum is not always equal to the parts.

We won't get any calls up there. Better know that going in. If we play really hard I think it will be a close game but we got to stay locked in. I think we can do some damage with our press and hopefully speed them up.

Fine with me cuz going back to a Lute vrs Bob game and scoring 40 points is not my idea of fun.

Were the announcers any better after a second viewing?............

See the Nebraska and Minnesota games as to what will happen in Madison, we have no chance, even if we play perfect .

Ya, not gonna get the calls, can't be overly aggressive on offense. Last thing we need is Cook with quick fouls.

Women's game?

I would like to see Iowa full court pressure the entire game. Our depth will be our strength.
Wisconsin looked worn out against MSU, which correlated to their poor shooting.
It will be crucial for Cook to stay out of foul trouble.
I think Kreiner could play Happ really tough. He is long and can bother Happ's shot.
I would foul Happ and Hayes and make them shoot ft's.

It was glorious dc and you were there live to experience this glory. I've already watched this game a few times now and check it out with about 6 minutes to play. Baer makes a beautiful lead past to JBo from the lane to catch Trimble sideways covering JBo. JBo then cans his 8th 3 pt shot with the great pic to the sideline of Charlie Rose putting up the 8 fingers for JBo threes...classic, luv it. The Terp crowd is thunderstruck by this 8th 3 pt shot by JBo....as the announcers said, "this crowd is shocked"

After another 3 point miss by the Terps and then on the next O possession...the Baer Trap takes a 3, misses it but has the nuts and smarts to follow up his shot for an easy put back for 2 points......then comes the Terp Boo Birds as you've never really heard before or rarely hear in a College BB game anyway.

Wow, this was the loudest I've heard from the Terp crowd for quite some time in this game.........I luved that too. This was a special game and really a true barometer for the Hawks on the road in a tough environment against a very good team that reflects or indicates change with this Iowa BB team which leads to the game on Thursday night against Wisky.

Actually I don't think Wisky is all that scary..they have holes. But yes always tough to win at their place. Course as bad as Happ & Hayes shot free throws against MSU..they will probably shoot lights out against us. Happ is a load underneath..he also walks half the time which never gets called.

Agree with Bob's thoughts here.....yes road games in the B1G are tough to win but Wisky has holes. I said before the Terp game after their home loss to Minny and how bad they shot the ball in that game that you watch, Trimble and company will come out with their hair on fire shooting the ball......it didn't happen.

Like Calhoun was saying on Saturday......"this Iowa team is very good" I agree with Jim.

We just have to bring that mojo that this team is capable of playing like to the Kohl Center....huge game.

This is a game in which we'll need our eleven guys to go all-out all game, especially on D. Bohannon has a history of following a stellar game with a head-shaking bad shooting night. If he miraculously is on, we could win. Like someone said, this will be a brutal game and we need to tire out their bigs and hit our free throws. Look for Fran to substitute at will and try to squeeze the best out of all our bigs. Wisky is going to "strong-D" Cook, Jok and Bohannon and take their chances with everybody else. So this is a good game for Kriener, Pemsl, Baer, Ellingson and Williams to go nuts. And for Wagner, Moss and Uhl to show up.

Jordan has a pretty good knowledge base on how Wisconsin plays defense on guards. He's been using "it" for at least 5 years and with his basketball IQ, I expect him to let the game come to him. That could mean a huge start to the game for the bigs. Jordan could have a great game with 6 points and 8 assists.

That or he could get the refs to actually call a foul on some of the shirt grabbing, arm holding, forearm shivering and overall rough techniques that refs seem to allow when Wisconsin plays.
