Riggins

I think he was actually a supersized halfback …… running behind the hogs but that was a long time ago I could be wrong but don’t remember him lead blocking for another rb
He was a fullback in the days when they actually carried the ball. Like Csonka. He was also very fast, running the 100 yard dash under 10 seconds.

no way 😳 under 10 100??? that’s hard to believe he was a big guy….. I guess I was thinking 100M times the world record is 9.58 ….. but 100 yard dash record was like 9.1 so that’s still amazing

Just looked it up to confirm - he was the Kansas state champion for two years at 9.8 for the 100 yard dash. While not elite world class, still pretty fast back in the day. 10.06 won the 100 meters in 1980.

No. Think he's talking about Timothy (Tim) Riggins, star running back for the Dillon Panthers. Tim, with his puppy dog... lady killer eyes and scraggly bangs was known throughout town for his heavy drinking and womanizing ways. While in school, Tim lived with his older brother Billy after having been abandoned by both their parents. Billy was about to obtain his PGA card and pursue a professional golf career when their father Walt left and Billy became the sole guardian of his younger brother. Despite their seemingly immature behavior and Tim's stoic and uncaring facade, the brothers are shown to be caring and loyal to each other in times of crisis.

Upon graduation, Riggins had few offers from D1 college football programs although former Dillon teammate Smash Williams was able to convince his new coach at the University of Texas to offer Tim a walk-on opportunity in which he declines. Tim later decides to sign with San Antonio State University, an FBS subdivision school but soon decides that college isn't for him. After leaving college, Riggins supported himself with various jobs in the oil and gas industry as well as an diesel and auto mechanic.

Today, Tim is enjoying life and has become a wealthy entrepreneur through T-Shirt and merchandise sales after having trade marked his now famous "Texas Forever" slogan. He has recently settled down and married his old highschool teammate QB Jason Street who became a paraplegic from an injury he sustained during a highschool football game. The two plan on adopting several children. Tim can now be found cheering on his Dillon Panthers under the Friday Night lights or peacefully wheeling Jason around on the sidewalks of Dillon Texas. His number 33 has recently been retired by Dillon H.S. after former coach and now high-school principle Eric Taylor first introduced the idea.

Franco was a fullback for those that are partial to black and gold.
I thought Franco was halfback and Vietnam vet Rocky Bleier was fullback. Like Larry Csonka and Jim Kiick, Butch and Sundance, for the Dolphins. Hard to believe that in my lifetime you could line up a couple honkies in the backfield and win a Super Bowl.

Us honkies have been underrated for a long time in the world of sports (except hockey and swimming). :)

They may have named their positions differently than one would think but Rocky was definitely the one doing more of the blocking and Franco carrying the ball more.
