Riley Moss' speed

3” and yes he could become a good college hurdler. My point was the first poster made it look like he was as fast as college hurdlers now.
Hes not but could be.
The poster was quoting from an article in the DM register. I know because I read that article, too. The reporter should have known college hurdles were higher, but maybe the poster doesn't follow track and didn't and was going by the article. He did not, on his own, compare the Moss time to college. And, BTW, the main thrust of the poster is Moss's time was pretty good for HS.

Moss just needs to get stronger, I’m sure that will come.. he’d leave after his jr year to the nfl if he was 6’2 but heck what is he 18-19 years old?? I grew all the way til is was 21.. I think he’ll be fine can he get a new number thou?

There are some posters on other threads who are claiming that Freshman cornerback Riley Moss does not have as much speed as the other defensive backs on our roster, and is therefore a weak link. One poster has used and others refuted the tired old race card about 'slow white guys;' and the thread has descended to yet another never-ending no-listen argument.

But both sides are missing a very important point. Of course Riley needs to grow and learn and to keep getting better every day. He has a ton of responsibility. But one trait he does not lack is speed. Reference Matthew Bain in a Hawk Central article, "Moss is a state champion hurdler who has run the country’s third-fastest 110 hurdles high school time this year (13.85 seconds). For reference: That time would have won the college men’s 110 hurdles at the Drake Relays, and no other Iowa prep athlete ran faster than 14.26 seconds this year."

If we have four or five other DB's faster than Moss, we are unquestionably the fastest secondary in the nation, probably including the NFL. We're good, but we're not quite that good. So even if one of our number is inclined to use or suggest the stereotype, it's important to note that Riley is NOT an example of the stereotype. He is the exception that completely disproves the rule.

I agree! He actually reminds me a lot of Desmond King his freshman year, seems raw a times and other times so on point and in good position. I remember Desmond looked lost at times as well and we wanted him replaced too! I trust coach Parker the kid must be doing really well in practice

Stupid can’t be fixed. The fact that people are still bitching about things in the program despite the success of the season isn’t in any way a reflection on the team. It’s a reflection on them and likely unhappiness in their personal lives.

Alabama is #1 in the nation, has one of the best defenses in the nation, yet Saban was bitching about his defense last week.

There’s always things to “bitch” about.

Speed-wise I'm sure he's absolutely fine being able to compete vs College hurdlers. I think it's more the height (both his and the hurdle ) and the learning curve of dealing with the dofferdiff.

Hurdling is mostly technique.

But to say he doesn't have the actual speed is incorrect. One doesn't run that fast without having the speed

Riley Moss is going to be another stand out white cornerback just like the ones you see playing on every other team around the country on Saturday AND Sunday. I'm not going to take the time to name all of them here I'm sure we can all come up with five or six good ones off the top of our heads, right?

Thanks for your support. A couple of thoughts - I ran the hurdles in high school, and later coached high school track and field, so I was very aware of the differences between the heights of high school and collegiate hurdles.

And, as you wrote, I was trying to make a point that Riley had the THIRD FASTEST TIME IN AMERICA among high school hurdlers, and, therefore, as you added tongue-in-cheek, his time was 'pretty good for H.S.' Again, thanks.

Saban is also the most miserable son a hammered twat to ever walk the face of the earth let alone coach college football. So there is that.

I can't think of the names of ANY cornerbacks around the country on saturdays or sundays off the top of my head. Don't care. :) I'll say Williams and bet that takes care of the 5 or 6.
