RIP Val kilmer

Weird guy but great actor. I’d recommend watching his documentary. Pretty interesting if you watched a bunch of his films. I didn’t know he didn’t way to do Top Gun but the studio made him, yet he still put in a perfect performance for that character.

Who do you cut?

That year was stacked.

WINNER
TOMMY LEE JONES
The Fugitive

NOMINEES

LEONARDO DICAPRIO
What's Eating Gilbert Grape

RALPH FIENNES
Schindler's List

JOHN MALKOVICH
In the Line of Fire

PETE POSTLETHWAITE
In the Name of the Father

Good question. You have to keep Jones, Fiennes, and Postlethwaite - great actors, great movies.

So it’s DeCaprio or John. In the Line of Fire is the weakest film.

I cut Malkovich (who is fantastic as always).

So for some reason this time is the first time I noticed that patch.
So I wondered, what squadron was Iceman in?
VF-213 is the Black Lions. That was an F-14 squadron, but that's not their patch.

Coincidentally, Wikipedia says: In 1985, they were mobilized for the filming of Top Gun on the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) for takeoffs & landings and AIM-9 Sidewinder & AIM-7 Sparrow firing scenes.

In 2006 VF-213 became VFA-213, and started flying F/A-18F Super Hornets.

That's probably the choice I'd make as well, but I'm not sure I would put Kilmer above Malkovich if I saw both performances without any outside influence.

Incredible year for film.

Was telling Mrs no pics Vickers this morning how underappreciated his role as Doc Holiday was... to which she replied, "wait, he was in Back to the Future?"...
She's never been much for remembering celebrities or movie details but that one was too good not to share.

On another note - we were in Colorado over one summer and got off the interstate at Glenwood Springs on the way to Aspen. It has the old hospital/sanitarium where the real Doc Holliday died.
We’d seen the Tombstone movie and learned he was buried there so off we go to his gravesite.
It’s a little bit of a steep hike and interesting with the “souvenirs” left by fans but damn it overlooks the back end of a freaking WalMart. This was some years back so maybe the WalMart has closed but it was crazy to me anyway.
(Note: we went to WalMart after and bought souvenir tee shirts 🤪)

I’m glad he’s not suffering to get through the day anymore - I just want to recall how epic he was in Tombstone. Absolutely owned that role.
RIP to a great actor.
Definitely my favorite role of his. One of my favorite lines was at the end when Doc is talking to Wyatt. Wyatt says he just wants a normal life. Doc says "there's no normal life Wyatt, there's just life". Absolute classic scene.
