Rose Bowl Considerations from a Spartan...

...first, great game in Indy. You guys have a great team - and some great fans, I had a lot of fun with many Hawkeyes at Kilroy's before the game.

With that, I thought I'd provide a few thoughts for the Rose Bowl (the greatest bowl of them all) from my experience from two years ago.

(1) If going to the parade and plan on tailgating, get into a section closest to the stadium so you can beat feet to the parking lots. Otherwise, you'll have limited to no tailgating time. We were fortunate in that we had a large group - half went to the parade and the other half tailgate (they set up). But we were on the far section of the parade and had to double time it to the tailgate lots (like 3 miles).
(2) Get in EARLY. I'm not sure if Iowa has the same sections as MSU had, but assuming you do the lines were extremely long. Once inside the stadium the lines were even longer. People were jammed up very close to one another. We barely made KO and left our tailgate 45 minutes before planned KO time.
(3) Beverly Hilton is awesome place to stay. If you're having issues with hotels, check AirBNB (half my crew did that).

Let me know if you have any other questions, I'd be happy to help.

Go Hawks!
Go Green!

thanks for the help. Will be driving to the game, any parking advice if you don't have a $350 parking pass?

Wow, that's more than we had to pay. I went on Stubhub and also googled for "Rose Bowl" parking on-line. We ended up getting a spot in the Rose Bowl lot itself, but I remember there being all sorts of lots not too far from the stadium that are designed tailgate zones.

Thanks for the post. By the way, can you find me some game tickets? 8^)

You do not need a parking pass. There is a HUGE Grassy lot (Can't remember which end of the stadium). We arrived at about 6:30am and it was probably 1/4 full. I am 95% sure it was just pay to park - no pass needed. Easy walk to the stadium.

That's right, I forgot they were free. If you can have a car at those lots early enough they are worth it. They are very close to the stadium on grass. That's where we tailgated. They happen to also be near the designated "Alumni" parties.

IF you can't get there early, look on-line.
