Can't argue with this. Unfortunately, screwing your team over and burning bridges is only going to become more and more common in this era of "college' sports. It won't be long until we hear about the first "training camp hold-out."

This is pro sports now and Iowa men's bball is a sports franchise.
I don't get worked up about a guy leaving a pro sports franchise in free agency moving to another team. Same here.
I want to see the team that I follow win. If it's mostly new players every year, I'm ok with that as long as they go deep in the NCAA tourney.

Outside of Dix and Freeman, who both will get offered good $ elsewhere, I believe the other guys are 1) Afraid that our new HC will have real expectations for success and 2) Afraid BMc will portal in competition.

If you practice Defense you play Defense. Its not that complicated. Same as rebounding. My High school coach had 20 minute Rebounding session every practice.

Plus, I think you are will not play much if you are not playing defense under BM.

Yes and no. It’s hard to just turn it on when it hasn’t been emphasized for the last couple of years. Skills and mind set take time to develop. You master something through repetition and habit.

The good news is that almost all current players have hit the portal, so McCollum can build a team with the guys he wants. I enjoy Josh Dix, but should Iowa pay him a million dollars to stay another year? No. He was a leader on a team that did not make the tournament. Pryce? I probably would like him to stay more than Dix because he will not cost as much.

With the new NIL and revenue-sharing rules, teams can be silly and spend outrageous amounts on "stars" at the risk of creating bad team chemistry. Or they can play Moneyball and build a roster of players that meet needs. I do not see McCollum as one to pay 2-3 guys 75% of the funds available.

If anyone needs to be at the top of the pay scale, it is a 6-4 PG who plays 39 minutes a game and has won 91 games during his career. Even in the seven games he did not start as a freshman, he averaged over 30 minutes of playing time.

Everyone in the country would like Dix on their team. Except you? C'mon man!

Did one guy be the shooter the other guy box him out as he shot it against the wall then switch. We did that everyday.

Paying Dix vs Stirtz.... I think you pay up for the top Dog PG Batman over a 2nd dog 2G that is more of Robin. The PG is extension
of coach and teams that make runs in NCAA need to have good PG.

Pryce can be a low cost Shooter at 2/3 positions. Koch fits in as a 3/4 hybrid.

We really need a couple Bigs and a backup PG.

Not sure but I don’t think he’s good enough to be a scholarship guy at Iowa. I think he had a couple low major offers like South Dakota.

I’m confident Ben can coach up Pryce’s defense. Bring him back.

If he cares but still can’t adequately defend then he is not athletic enough.

If he is athletic enough but now needs coaching to adequately defend then he doesn’t really care.

It’s time to bring defense back to Iowa basketball. Sandfort averaged 8.8 points and 2.9 RBs at 22.5 minutes per game. This offensive production is easily replaceable by a slew of portal players who can also actually play defense. He’ll, Brock Harding matched Pryce’s scoring (8.8 ppg) and had 4X as many assists.

Clean out your locker.

Pryce is a decent defender, we need him and Harding is good enough to be kept as well.

I understand that attitude, but those guys are/were all Hawkeyes, and it's not their fault that their head coach was terrible and did not develop them into B1G players. I would welcome anyone on the roster or who is in the portal to come back to the Hawks if BMac would like them on his team.

It's interesting that the 3 most athletic players, Traore, Tadjo and Johnson-Arigu haven't entered the portal.

I could see all 3 being good fits with the switching defensive scheme.

Not sure about that. There is a report that Washington offered Pryce a lot of money.
