it was certainly an interesting journey for the guy. Barely going .500 for a mid tier big ten school and losing his starting spot, transferring to an elite program and being coached by the "it" coach in college football and making a pretty good run at Michigan, then defying the odds and getting drafted, then playing pretty well in NFL preseason games...better than any other hawkeye qb in the past 25 yrs, only to be one of the last guys cut before the nfl football season starts. It sounds like he was signed to their practice squad. I'll hand it to him, he overachieved based on his talents.

Good luck in med school Jake.

Wasn't there just a thread the other day stating that he grabbed the backup QB role?

Not familiar with NFL. Can another team sign him?

Yes, but, As QC noted he was signed to the practice squad. Now if another team wants him they can still sign him but he has to go on the 53-man roster. This was clearly a decisions of the Lions wanting a non-rookie backup and the fact Ruddock is unlikely to ever appear on any teams 53 man roster. As long as he practices well and doesn't crap the bed next preseason he will be the backup in 2017.

I doubt he's ever a significant contributor to a team, but he isn't out of the NFL just yet. Plus, quarterbacks have more staying power than any other position in football. If a defensive player looks at them wrong, they get a penalty.

He may be drawing an NFL paycheck, but he will never play a regular season NFL down in his life. Much like Stanzi.

BTW...not hammering either guy. Good work if you can get it.

I thought Jake would make the cut. He had an above average preseason.

Brandon Wegher was cut too. He didnt separate himself from the #3 RB spot.

Looks like AJ Derby is going to be Gronks backup with the Pats.Crazy road for him but I'm happy for him

This. And Rudock was a great Hawk. Too many idiots mistake his performances here. He was eventually beaten out by a QB who'd developed to be better.

  • A practice squad player will make a minimum of $6,900 for every week he is on a practice squad. That equals $117,300 is a player remains on a practice squad for 17 weeks, more if his team reaches the playoffs. Teams can choose to pay practice squad players more than the $6,900 weekly minimum, but those salaries do count against the salary cap.

MSU is gonna get rocked by MI.......
They got lucky last year, but last minute luck isn't gonna be enough this year.
That changes nothing about their programs. Until Michigan wins a couple conference championships, MSU is still the better program.

MI>MSU this year....and last year....
Michigan State dominated Michigan on the road in everything except the final score, which they still won. They also beat OSU on the road and won their division and the conference. Literally nothing supports Michigan being better than MSU last year.

This year appears to be different, but I am not counting MSU out yet.

Harbaugh building a monster. Get used to it.

LOL...Jealousy not a good look for you. Michigan is an elite program...is and always has been.
I'm not jealous at all. I don't give af about Michigan, I'm just stating the facts. Elite status isn't permanent. When you don't win a conference championship in 12 years, you lose that.

Really...you quoting one year? LOL...not sure you want to go there
Oh I don't really give a f*** about what you have to say about Iowa.

And you know I could add more than one year from the past 8.....which just goes to show how not-always-elite Michigan has been recently.

Just sayin.

Sure is a good thing Iowa rearranged practice schedules around Jake's class schedule. Wouldn't want to interfere with his dreams of getting to med school quickly.
