Rumblings

Some have connected the dots to a big that just entered from Rice. His first two years were in Wyoming. Played with 3 of the Drake guys.

Caden Powell played his first 2 years at Wyoming and last year at Rice. So, no matter where he ends up, it looks like another player with one year remaining.

I think we need to come to terms with the fact that many of the top portal prospects are going to be one-year guys.
Yeah, and I don’t know why people are bothered by it?

They only have Stirtz for one year. I’m interested in the team around him being as good as possible, no matter their eligibility. If McCollum is good in year one; it will be a massive jumpstart for Iowa basketball, and the attractiveness of the program going forward.

Unfortunately everything in college bb is trending towards a year to year basis.

Every player, including high school kids entering the program, are one year rentals, where at the end of each season you hope to have enough "salary" to offer to keep them.

This is what college sports are all about, baby! ;)

I have not followed all the details of the roster rebuild, so maybe this has been discussed, and I missed it. Is Iowa pursuing any high school players who have reopened their recruiting after coaching changes? Is there any word on progress with that group?

Iowa has a visit on the 11th from Nyk Lewis, a PG who is a top 50 player in the country. He decommitted from Xavier.

Tate Sage, a wing who was committed to McCollum at Drake, is expected to commit to Iowa at some point, according to rumors.

Aleksa Vlajic is a big man who decommitted from Fordham that Iowa has been recruiting.

There have been rumors that Iowa Mr. Basketball Trevin Jirak, a big man from West Des Moines Valley, is going to decommit from UNI and commit to Iowa.

Pass on the Valley. Hope it doesn’t happen.

Rosters in the current all free agent all the time era are one year constructs.
If a coach gets a player that he likes who sticks around 2 seasons, that's good. 3 seasons is great. 4 seasons will be a rarity.
Development of players not ready to see major minutes for power conference teams will happen at the lower tier D1 schools. The top level high schoolers will still be sought after because they will be expected to play significant minutes immediately.
And everything about roster construction will be heavily influenced by payroll considerations.
This is professional bball. There's no point in pretending otherwise. Roster construction is as much about finances as it is about player evaluations.

All I stated was a fact: So, no matter where he ends up, it looks like another player with one year remaining.
Yep. That’s exactly what you said.

Seemed like maybe you’re a bit bothered by it? Sure seemed like a “here we go again” comment. Maybe not.

Do these guys even go to class? How can you “pursue” a degree on a year-to-year basis? Or am I just so fukking old I still think you go to college to learn something and get a sheet of paper at the end?

Why even bother with High School recruiting now?
Probably should be reduced. Let the mid majors test out high s hook players and then just hire the good ones away.

I thought I read the final 8 teams in tournament had a lot of players that were at smaller schools the prior year.

Ben didn't even offer at drake. I dunno why he would now.

The kid had good stats. But nothing at all jumps off the tape to me. But who am I.

I think the big coming in is the one from rice. He played under the assistant that coached at Wyoming. It just makes sense.
