The numbers spent might be stupid, but the election cycles keep many people employed all year round. Political ads keep some radio and tv stations operating. Print shops wouldn’t exist without campaigns, and would be much more expensive.

Many parts of the economy depend on this spending.

Paying 6 figures to be on a podcast that has a freckle of the listeners of Joe Rogan - which she could have done free, paying out of touch celebs to promote you - just to name a couple. But hey, most Americans live with large amounts of credit card debt, so I guess it probably seems normal to many.

Maybe my media habits are just weird, but I encountered very little political advertising this season. Like I know I saw a couple ads, but not enough that I remember anything about them. The exception to this is my phone was blowing up with political calls for the past month—probably because I have a 608 (WI) area code.
