Rutgers and Maryland--Big Ten Battle in the Bronx (Wrestling/Football)

With the football game following it has a shot, but only if they sell the tickets together as one.

The stadium is 8 years old. Attendance for both the Yankees in baseball and Rutgers in football has been declining. They've had several other college games there with little interest. I doubt the addition of wrestling will do much.

Maybe ... if it was anyone other than Rutgers and Maryland ... ;)
Rutgers definitely isn't one of the top powers in wrestling right now but they have a good group of talent there and were one of the few schools to qualify all 10 guys for nationals last year

I hear ya. I was just poking a little fun. I think this is great for the sport of wrestling and great opportunities for both schools to showcase their programs. It's a win-win situation ...

You think that will beat the Grapple on the Grid Iron attendance record?

I can't see them breaking the record for a few reasons. One, if the game immediately follows meet, not too many fans(outside of Iowa City), would sit in any stadium for around 7 hours straight. We had the nice break between the meet and the game to go out, soak up the sun and a "few" beers. They may not have that luxury.

For the football fans, there is a hell of lot to do in New York rather than watch a wrestling meet. Again, assuming these two teams don't draw too well in the first place. I doubt too many casual fans will walk up to see these two teams wrestle.

If the meet included Iowa, PSU, OSU? It could be a different story.

With that said, I hope it does well, as I agree, it is good for wrestling. :)

They will sell more tickets but they won't have anywhere near the butts in seats.

Glad to see this. Have a friend who lives on the east coast who is gonna try to go. Great for the sport!

Wrestling for Life has good friends who are fans of both schools. I'm hoping that we'll be able to give away a lot of tickets for this.

Depends on if they sell a separate ticket or do the BS move and say the football ticket covers both and just use the football ticket sales for a fake attendance record. If separated then no way. Only team that has a prayer breaking the record straight up is PSU. But that would likely take Iowa, OK st or Ohio st agreeing to do it.
