I see now that they list Nunge at 6 foot 11 and 220 pounds. That makes me wonder if he will play more of the five position than the three position next year. He will give Fran an incredible amount of options next year.

I've noticed that the current Roster does not have a guy 6'11".
Hmmmmm.............

GO HAWKS :)

Nunge indicated that he chose Iowa because he liked the way Uthoff was utilized and felt that his game was very similar. Jack likes to run the floor and shoot the 3. Garza can play with his back to the basket and has good post moves. I think that he will play the 5 and Nunge with his outside shooting will be playing the 3 and 4.

Who is they?

He will play the 4 spot.

Not enough quickness to play the 3 and we have several bodies to play the 5.

In addition to perhaps stretching the floor on the offensive side of the ball, I'm excited that he made add a shot blocking presence on the defensive side

Will be interesting to see what happens with all these bigs.

In a few years Iowa could put out a front line of Garza, Kreiner and Nunge. Thats a huge front line that can all shoot outside the paint. They would have to play allot of zone but could be very effective too.

Name one 6'11 guy that has EVER played the 3.........
Kevin Durant is not that tall

I can't name one but his height and weight on our recruiting board is 6'9 185lbs. Uthoff is 6' 9" and going into the NBA draft last year was listed as a SF. (Nunge has described his game as very much like Uthoff).

Nunge is listed as a PF on our recruiting site so I hope that he has grown 2 inches and added a few lbs as well.

Hellooooooo -

He grew two inches.... and he has already added 30Lbs.... from 2015/2016 -- Doesn't anybody read Tom's updates? geesh....

I was just saying he probably needs to get up to 230 / 240 otherwise it is going to be like UHL going inside and getting bumped around.....

We could use him to protect the rim next year. And offensively, he can pull his man out to the perimeter.

I don't think he is a rim protector. This video showed him barely getting his hands above the rim and when using just one hand, it wasn't a very hard throw down. He can jump higher than Woody, tho. :) (but I loved Woody's heart)

Garza is a true Center and will share the center spot next year. Nunge is a small forward. He has the skills to play the 3 and likes to shoot from out.
We don't need him to play the 4. We have lots of 4s. If Fran and Jack decide he's not ready to play the 3 next year he will likely redshirt. However I think he's a hell of a player.

If he can play the three let's lie and call him 6'7" and 200. If he can play the post let's lie and call him 7'0" 240. Everybody else does it.

We can lie all we want! Jordan Bohannon is John Stockton's first cousin! He just got better as point guard, didn't he. :)

Lie like crazy! Baer's Great Uncle was Rick Barry!

By the way, the next step is to convince our guys that it's all true.

Are you guys sure he's not just like a lot of big men his age that take a few years for their legs to catch up? Just sayin...

Dan, I don't follow your comments regarding lying. Are you implying I lied about something ? Are you referring to me ?
If so, what did I say that was a lie ? I only post facts or opinions . If you are referring to someone else I'm sorry I got involved.

That's just dan being dan. :p

When Jarod Uthoff came out of CR Jefferson as a senior he was listed as 6'11" and around 220. He apparently lost 2 inches and about 10-20 lbs while in College.

I think that the point that Dan was making was that height and weight can be exaggerated one way or the other to make your case as to what position the player will end up playing.

Magic Johnson at Michigan was a 6' 9" PG and Heathcote was apparently not concerned that there had probably never been a PG that tall as a Div 1 or NBA player before. If you can play the position you can play the position. Unseld could play Center pretty well at 6'7".

No. I was making an exaggerated joke about worrying if a guy fits the right mold by saying we should just lie and convince the kid he's a three, or a five, or 6'7", or 7', or whatever it takes to make a player believe he can do what we need. Even if it means convincing one of 'em that they are the illegitimate son of Michael Jordan so we know they can play just like him. :) I always hit reply when actually replying to someone, so rest assured this was just a joke and not aimed at anyone.

Nice alternative facts.... but he was 6'8" 195lbs. out of CR Jeff when he committed to Wisconsin

Makes me think of former Hawkeye Matt Bullard draining three's for the Houston Rockets. I think Bullard was about 6'-11''.

Speaking for me, I don't know if this weight gain is an absolute must? Stronger, sure.

I saw a skinny Mr. Baer block the shot of Purdue's behemoth center, Haas. Just saying........
It is rare that someone gets to use the word "behemoth".

Sorry! I thought I remembered this (height, weight) from watching a sports clip from an Iowa station that was showing him working out at CR Jefferson. You are correct and I am wrong.

I certainly don't want myself associated with alternative facts. We have enough of those already.
