Samantha Logic finishes her career at Iowa with a triple double!

It's funny that ESPN doesn't mention this at all. In the summary segment afterwards, they even had a stat line showing these stats on the screen, and the announcer says she had 9 rebounds when the stats on the screen there said she had 10. So either they have pretty bad communications, or they have pretty bad statisticians both online and in the studio.

Yep, and in that same highlight show after the game, they trumped up the game that Agbuke had without mentioning this foul she committed at all. They just showed highlights that included ANOTHER elbow by Agbuke in the face down in the paint to an Iowa player that wasn't even called at all. I wonder if she had to play with another foul like Doolittle did if we might have had a different game too.

Someone should post the highlight video after the game to YouTube to show the bias that ESPN clearly had with the obvious pumping up of everything that Baylor did and ignoring their bad moments and the big accomplishment of Sam Logic. It would really show their ineptitude very clearly. Just a nice mention of Logic would have provided good balanced coverage that this network sorely needs if it wants to avoid the reputation that had the Big Ten go to having a separate Big Ten Network set up to avoid this sort of thing, that has happened so much in the past with its east coast bias. I guess at least they can be happy that the B1G team that's left in the tourney is from the east coast now, even if the head coach also has roots in the state of Iowa, which I'm sure that network will ignore as well.

What a career! Do you think she has a shot at pro ball? I don't follow the WNBA at all.

An aside, I am impressed with the progress Whitney Jennings made this year. She definitely looks to be a 4 year starter.

She''s been fun to watch, and hope she finds a spot in euro ball where the money is decent.

Remember when Kach Alexander graduated, I though she'd be tough to replace....Now, Sam will leave a huge opening for someone. This Senior class is going to be tough to replace in one year.

In the halftime show just on, they still didn't mention that Logic had a triple double, but just showed the stat line a few times without a verbal mention. Their "creative" stat was to note that Nia Johnson, had 16 assists that was more than Iowa had as a team with 15 assists. Interesting that they could mention that and not the triple double.

But that is an interesting stat in that Logic had all of the assists for the team (14) except one by Ally Disterhoft. That probably is another big reason why Iowa lost tonight. Usually they have a lot more distribution of the ball and assists by many other players, like when they set records for team assists against Northwestern earlier this year. Hopefully next year Jennings and a new supporting cast will address this issue when they start playing big defensive competition like Baylor then.

According to this QC TImes article, this triple double is Logic's sixth for her career, which puts her in a tie for third place one behind the two tied with seven for the NCAA record.

QC Times article

-----------------------------------
With 13 points, 10 rebounds and 14 assists in her final game as a Hawkeye, Samantha Logic put together the sixth triple-double of her collegiate career against Baylor.
Only two players in NCAA history, Suzie McConnell of Penn State (1985-88) and Louella Tomlinson of St. Mary's (2008-11), finished with more. Both totaled seven.
Logic's six ties her with Stanford's Nicole Powell (2001-04) and Maryland's Alyssa Thomas (2011-14) for third on the NCAA all-time list.Logic moved past Nancy Kennelly of Northwestern and into second place on the Big Ten career assists list with her 14 dimes against Baylor. She finishes her career with 898, three shy of the league record held by Samantha Prahalis of Ohio State.....-----------------------------------
Damn, too bad she didn't get four more assists tonight or they could have played one more game. Would have been even more personally satisfying for her to take away that assists title from Prahalis, who's had a history of annoying Hawkeye fans! And Suzie McConnell got her record before Penn State joined the Big Ten too.

And doing a little research on this page link:

http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/w_basketball_RB/2014/Triple_Double.pdf

It looks like Logic's triple double in a sweet sixteen game was only the second one in women's tournament history... Kristin Haynie of Michigan State had the other one in 2005 versus Vanderbilt. Two other players (Anne Donovan of Old Dominion vs. Penn State in 1983, and Skylar Diggins of Notre Dame vs. Maryland in 2012) had triple doubles in regional final games. All of the other NCAA tourney triple doubles were in the first or second round games of the tourney.

your first mistake is believing that anything good at all comes from ESECPN!
that channel has gone down the sh!thole and I haven't watched those bastages for literally years now...They flat out suck and have their own agenda and bias.
Just quit watching and you will not miss it one bit.

ESPN's announcers were completely biased last night. They gushed about Baylor from the opening tip. Baylor was clearly better last night but the announcers were terrible.

I'll disagree.

Signed,
Michelle "Ice" Edwards
Different players. Edwards was more of a scorer with lots of assists. Logic more all around with scoring, assists and rebounds. I don't know the number, but Sam missed some triple doubles over her career by missing a point, or rebound or assist. I don't know if Edwards ever had a triple double but I assume some double doubles. Both great PGs.

I agree. Best all around player I have ever seen at Iowa. I hope she goes into coaching and returns to Iowa someday. She really understands the game like few players I have ever seen.

Here are a few WNBA Mock Drafts FWIW.... Looks like she is projected to be a top 10 pick.

Mock Draft

Mock Draft 2

Hey, she is ahead of Kiah Stokes in both mock drafts.

Kiah Stokes made a very bad decision to play for UCONN. Most of the time she watched from the bench. She would have played major minutes and been a 4 year starter at Iowa. Very sad for her.

completely asinine, which is par for the course for you.

Stokes will end up playing for at least 2 title teams. was All-Conference while also being the conference's defensive player of the year. thats better than playing a bigger role for a far inferior team. going to iowa would have been the easy way out.

of course, you are the same buffoon who last year declared Marcus Paige should have gone to iowa so he could have played in "games that matter". i bet marcus is really regretting missing out on that play in game last season or having to play on the 2nd weekend this season.

No need to call me a name because you disagree. But let me make two points:
1. Watch UCONN play. Stokes gets maybe 10 minutes per game.
2. Had Paige come to Iowa I really believe we would have gone to the final four last year or this year. So....games that matter. (of course there is no way to know for sure one way or the other is there?)

Now you can resume your name calling since you really can make no cogent point.

1 -how does stokes average almost 20 minutes per game if she "gets maybe 10 minutes per game?"
2- your inference last seaosn was that iowa would be playing in games that matter and unc wouldnt be. you were wrong. again.

1. I am talking about what Stokes is getting NOW in games, not her average. Point is she plays less than a full game. She got more minutes in the cupcakes they played.
2. You seem to have a mental block about this. I am saying Iowa would have had those meaningful games IF THEY HAD PAIGE, who is an impact player and would have taken them further.

I am sorry this is so difficult for you. Let's just agree to disagree. You simply are not understanding the points I am making.

Dude, just stop. You're factually wrong...and also just plain vanilla wrong.

First of all, I would have loved to see these two players play for the Hawks. Without question, both would have contributed to more success for Iowa programs over the last few years. With that said, I also think it's tough to question their decision or the results of that decision. Kiah will have played for and won multiple national championships in far and away the best women's basketball program of this century. While Marcus has had much success while becoming the face of one of the most storied programs in men's basketball history. I think that they both are fine with their decisions, and if you step back and look at it from a realistic stand point there's really nothing more they could have accomplished at Iowa. Fire away and tell me how disloyal I am......
