Can anyone tell me of the current roster, who's game Sandfort reminds them of?

Yeah he has 38 3pt attempts and 30 FT attempts, so not a huge sample size, but not inconsequential either

FWIW, his sophomore brother Pryce is 17/30 from 3, good for nearly 57%, as essentially a spot up shooter on that loaded Waukee team. The two can shoot!

Here is Waukee's starting lineup of late:

F-Omaha Biliew 6'8" soph
F-Wyatt Heston 6'7" sr
F-Payton Sandfort 6'7" sr
G-Pryce Sandfort 6'5" soph
G-Tucker DeVries 6'7" sr

That's pretty much positionless basketball

I just meant that, because of DeVries/Payton/Biliew, Pryce hasn’t had to do much so far this year aside from shoot. 3/4 of his shot attempts are from 3

Should be good preparation for an offensive system like Iowa’s

I also really like the Kopp comparison for Payton - one of the more under appreciated players in the league

I grew about 2 or 3 inches my sophomore year and I am only 5'9". So Pryce could/should grow at least a couple of inches by senior year. To bad he is so young or Waukee would have every one 6'7" or more! High school!!! Wow. We had a very good (#1 most of year) team and our center was 6'3" and guards were 5'7" and 5'9"!! Times have changed! Dark ages tho! LOL

The State should create a new class so they can play teams their own size.............

Well, everyone assumed they would win State last year easily, then Ankeny High crashed the party.
And they returned everyone and now are winning games by an average margin of 30 points. They had a surprising hiccup against Johnston when Devries didn't play but for this team to not win state assuming they are at full strength come tournament time might take an act of God. Similar category as the Barnes/McDermott Ames teams and the Paige/Matt Bohannon Linn-Mar team that went undefeated.

Waukee certainly doesn't look like an Iowa HS team.

Payton's offensive stats might be even more impressive were he not sharing the ball with about three other good scorers. Way too skinny to get near the lane right now, Payton just needs to get bigger and stronger. Payton is not slow, much faster than Brady Ellingson. No Joey T, to be sure but Payton's speed is comparable to Ke Murray, hence well more than sufficiently fast to successfully play Big Ten ball. Payton gets off the floor pretty quick and pretty high.

Needs work on ball handling and defense. Those areas of his game might develop or he may just be an offensive sparkplug off the pine.

The shot, however, is beautiful. He has that Larry Bird shot where he always finishes with his shoulders square to the basket and the middle finger of his shooting hand aimed right at the middle of the hoop. High and quick release. His shot is very smooth. He drops the 3 balls from everywhere so the 22' line should not be a problem.

Payton's skill set does not remind me of anyone on the roster. He does remind me of Jarod Uthoff. He's tall enough to get plenty of open looks. Should be able to just stop and shoot over smaller players.

Iowa is very deep and very young in the general "forward" position. Payton comes in looking at possibly three years of playing behind the Murrays and PMcC. A getting bigger and stronger red shirt would probably do Payton some good but you do not see much of that these days.

I fully expect them to win the tourney this year, no doubt about it. But basketball is a weird game, just one off night and you're headed home.

Biliew has had an offer from Fran at Iowa before Omaha transfered from Dowling. 6th or 7th rated player in his class in the country at his position.

Fran is going go have some nice length on the roster in the next few years. Length that can shoot. Eventually after some development, hopefully they’ll also be able to take defenders off the dribble a little bit as well. But with effective dribble drives by our point guards and kick outs to shooters, their length should help them get some nice looks from 3.

The 22-23 season will maybe have a lineup of: (2 years down the road, not next season)
5- Nunge/Josh O (not sure Nunge stays for Sr. Year)
4- Keegan Murray/ Kris Murray
3 - PMac/ P. Sandfort
2 - C.J. Frederick/Tony Perkins
1 - Joe T/Ullis

Positions may be off somewhat. I have a hard time deciding on some of the positions. Things can change, but just a fun little projection of the team a few years down the road.

I'm guessing that your high school wasn't 3 or 4A.

Spot on with one big question mark. Why do you think C McC is not coming back?
